The Whipping Post has (had?) the potential to be a legitimate forum for debating on a lot of topics where we disagree. Instead, a small number of posters follow Saul Alinsky's rule 5:
quote:
The fourth rule of tactics: Make the enemy live up to their own book of rules. You can kill them with this, for they can no more obey their own rules than the Christian church can live up to Christianity.

The fourth rule carries within it the fifth rule: Ridicule is man's most potent weapon. It is almost impossible to counterattack ridicule. Also it infuriates the opposition, who then react to your advantage.

- Saul Alinsky; Rules for Radicals; 1971; p. 128

The folks who follow this rule -- including, but not limited to, ST, OTF, SCB, SM, and a few others -- use this tactic often. I know they're intelligent. But I see that they rely on ridicule and personal, ad hominem attacks often enough that they've become predictable. Agree with them and they're your good buddies. Disagree with them and the name-calling starts. No amount of verification will satisfy them if you disagree with them.

They're large fish in a very small pond and as I've pointed out before, none of them would survive in a serious debate.

Y'know, Bill, you once started a thread with this:

quote:
Liberals, make sure you're sitting down before you read the next part.

Not, "everyone," not "what does everyone think," not "folks," but "liberals."

When it comes to pre-judgements and the like, you're just as guilty as anyone else.

Here's what I believe; justifying/blaming one's behavior on the actions of another is in no way "manning up", but a coward's way of playing the victim. Stand on what you think to be right no matter what another does, no matter what it costs you, and I'm impressed. Otherwise it's just another pair of lips flapping in the wind, IMHO.

I've lost track of how many threads you've started by insulting people and then saying that the problem is that they insult people. You've started this same thread over and over and over.

Yes Bill, its all the "liberals" fault. As usual. Meanwhile, post another thread stirring up shiat (quoting Saul Alinsky of all people). Ooops, sorry, didnt mean to get all ad hominem-y on you.

You stared a thread there with his name in the title, then called him a pu$$y in the first post, and now you're a victim because he responded? Try again.

What a scabby piece of hypocrisy. Here's the link to the thread:
http://allmanbrothersband.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=XForum&fi le=viewthread&tid=91060#pid2108296

Here's the subject line: Subject: Obama and the teleprompter -- liberals, make sure you're sitting down!

Here's the emoticon I used:

Here's the text:
quote:
You all know what I think about President Obama, so I won't rehash any of that.

Liberals, make sure you're sitting down before you read the next part.

Ready? OK.

What's the big deal about Obama reading from a teleprompter? I've seen a number of pieces that nail him pretty hard, make fun of him, and so on. There's even a website that claims to be his teleprompter's blog, again adding to the fun.

Is this any different from reading from notes? I've spoken to audiences (physically in front of me; on my former radio program; one or two other places) enough times to realize that improvising is risky and demanding. Ad-libbing is like crossing a minefield blindfolded on a pogo stick with a sticky spring. (Dang! That was good!)

A slip of the tongue can be a disaster, or it can distract the speaker. Criticizing Obama for taking a rational, commonsense approach makes the humorists look petty. There are plenty of other reasons to criticize him (sorry, I couldn't resist ), so why not make them legitimate?

People have been writing and editing their speeches for a long time, reading from tightly scripted notes. If the technology exists, why not use it?

I was humorously (always dangerous when approaching liberals) pointing out the incongruity of my supporting Obama compared with other things I wrote about him.

You used a quote taken out of context and posted it without citing the location (it took me a couple of minutes to find it).

As I've pointed out before, but will put it more bluntly, if you tried something like this in even a high-school debate, you'd get your sorry butt kicked out.

You're absolutely right, Bill. I visit a few "smack" boards, to where they'd be eaten up like a three foot patch of grass in a thundering heard of cows.

Though SCB and I had a few run-ins, he clearly showed that he's a good guy. I'm sure he's not probably thrilled on how I've been acting lately, but I've been doing what I've been doing for a reason.

A few days back, Otie LIED and said I accused him of screwing around on his wife. Absolutely incredible. He will absolutely not elaborate on the fact that I asked him if he did, and followed that by saying it wouldn't shock me if he had. Very far and away different from actually saying that he did or accusing. He conveniently had the thread erased and got my Maconga nic banned for something HE lied about.

I was ready to pack my bags, but in making parting statements, Otie and glowingstain just HAD to run their mouths at me in the playpen. That's the ONLY reason I came back to post in this miserable $hithole. A few folks pm'd me and said "dude - it's so nice to see you thumping some of these pri<ks around", but I seriously don't like hanging out with folks who are horribly dishonest. I made the statement "I think I'll troll 'em for a couple of days, and watch how they just eat it up". Mission accomplished.

I'm pretty passionate about my beliefs. There are several folks in here that are as well, though they're on the left side. Instead of manning up and taking what they're giving, they tend to cry and ask for governing interventions. I shouldn't be shocked by that, but I do feel as if it's a pretty feminine way out.

I've made the statement a hundred times, that I treat people the way they treat me. Some of these geeks feel that they have the right to crap down my throat and expect me to say nothing in return. That's just not how I roll.

Ask SCB. He and I went at it, we chilled, and now we get along just fine. Simple as that.
Yheah, the "other guy" always starts it. Everyone can read what you write. Everyone but you understands it. You were never going to "pack your bags". You are here for one reason, to screw with people. You contributions to anything else are minimal.
And you take a big whoring crap on anybody, ANYBODY who disagrees with you. I just find it kind of strange that some of these folks are too blind to see what you do. Bigann & I don't always agree politically at all, yet she's as nice as she can be, and I don't have anything but respect for her - just because she's treated me the same way.

You treat me with no respect, and I treat you accordingly.
This forum has become so surreal that it's hard to fathom.

I posted something that represented nothing more than my opinions and as is almost always the case, the same tiresome crew posted the same predictable drivel. The only one I forgot in my list was MGL and sure enough, he spouted anyway.

I agree with you about SCB. We don't agree, but I get more respect from him than from most of the others. ST also. Spacemonkey is completely beyond my understanding, as is OTF.

Keep on with what you're doing. I appreciate the way you confront those who need it (as always, IMHO).

This is true of ALL who do not toe the "progressive, enlightened and tolerant" line is it not? If not, I'd love for you to name the exceptions.

You got that sh*t right, Bill. This thread is an excellent example. Calling a bunch of us out by name and acussing us of doing what you do. Seems to me you are ridiculing my perceived lack of debating skills. Are you able to see that, or is that plank in your eye hiding your view?

Here's some info for you, Bill. I'm not a "debator." I'm a carpenter who works for a living. I'm not any kind of fish in any kind of pond. I come here sometimes to discuss things with other posters, Big f*cking deal if you think I'm not up to the standards that apparently you've set (for others, not yourself) for admirable debating skills.

I find it hilarious that you and Derek Halsey are the ones who like to brag about your debating skills and ridicule the lack of skill in others, when neither of you ever debate anything. You're right. Those who disagree are wrong. No debate.

Or maybe the next time I see Butch Walker I will carry a few of these posts for him to read, I know he will get a kick out of them.

You're an admitted poseur is my point. You're what you accuse others of being.

Dick Kelley, when you submitted a list of albums you'd like to have with you on a deserted island to your local Grand Rapids newspaper, how many Allman Brothers album were on the list?

Be speciifc. You might have to wipe the hypocrisy fronm your face to see your screen.
