Was just listening to the track on Ludlow Garage...hasn't been played since JP sat in for Warren in '05. Great tune, would love to hear WH and DT take a spin with it...anyone know much about the history of this tune...?

Always thought it was a good change of pace from the longer jams and slower blues stuff, would like to hear it once in a while.

The first time I heard this was on Duane Anthology II.
Kocked my socks off. Still does. Berry's bass...what can you say. That little cameo lick on F# gives me a big smile everytime I hear it.

Duane's take on some John Lee Hooker

Always thought this was one of their more Rockin' songs.

Has always been one of my favorites ( quite obvious I guess ) , I was at the Toronto show in 2005 when they did it with JP what a treat . I was actually a little surprised they didn't dust this one off for this years Beacon run .

Excellent show and excellent recording (the Instant Live) - at one of the finest venues in which i've ever seen the Brothers.

my favorite Instant Live

http://www.hittinthenote.com/cart/p-419-allman-brothers-bandbrinstant-live- 2005brford-pavilion-montage-mtbrscranton-pa-81905.aspx

Warren was ill for a stretch of shows in August of '05 and Jack filled on. The first night Warren was back healthy & playing, Jack stuck around and sat in for "Blues Hour" so this show features Jack, Warren & Derek on "Dimples" as well as a few others.

The history of that song goes way back to the Hour Glass, and even before. Duane and Paul Hornsby used to do harmony guitars to that back in 67-68. It was the first time I ever remember hearing (or noticing) harmony guitar leads, and it was a showstopper for Hour Glass. Johnny Sandlin told me that they played Dimples back in the 5-Menits, and brought that song to the Hour Glass. Duane sang a handfull of songs back in the early days, but this was different...more ABB sounding.

In a conversation I had with Bill Ektor, he mentioned that he had a talk with Gregg and Gregg told him that he asked Jack to do "Dimples" because Jack reminded him so much of his brother. Said that Gregg told JP that he held his mouth in a funny way like Duane did and that Jack said "No I don't ." and Gregg replied "That's what my brother always said."

When I first heard that, it was on Anthology II. I'd pick the needle up and just play it over and over. The opening riff was like the old Memorex ad where the guy is blown back in his chair.
