Whoa! Could not disagree more. In fact, I published a review in my campus music mag arguing that Doyle was the thing dragging this album down compared to Soulines (vocally, compositionally, musically)...

I might post that review, for now I'll just say, keep Doyle away!

TOP 5 DTB TUNES? I could not disagree more. I LOVE the album "Already Free", but must admit the only two songs I skip over are the songs Doyle sings. I'm not a Doyle hater, and like his work with Clapton....but he just doesn't fit the DTB vibe. I'm all for mixing it up from time to time with new musicians, songwriters, etc.....but I hope Doyle is not the answer. Maybe JJ Grey from Mofro? He's from FL as well isn't he?

I agree with duaneberry, Doyle's voice is wasted on the hearing.

I like the Doyle tracks, but I think Mike is a better fit for the band. Doyle did co-write a couple of tunes. I know he worked on Get What You Deserve, my favorite track on the album...

Our Love is one of the best tracks on the album- I'd say that one or Back Where I Started are the best originals. Doyle's voice doesn't do it for me, though.

I don't belive you can say that, when DTB has one of the finest singers out there, MIKE MATTISON, come on what are you hearing. I'm not bashing Doyle, but Mike is the MFiING
MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mike is the voice of DTB other than the one that screams out of Derek's amp.

This is an interesting thread. I like Our Love alot. Think its a good tune. I'm pretty indifferent about Doyles voice. I think its fine. I could take it or leave it, but I feel the same about Mike Mattison.
Funny thing I've been noticing is that, outside of Derek fan sites, people either really love or dislike Mike's voice. When I first heard Mike's voice, I was not a fan. It has since grown on me and I understand that it "fits" a lot of the stuff dTb is writing. I still prefer the era of Javier Colon vocals with a healthy dose of instrumentals. But I'm sure those days is gone for good.
Either way, its likely the Doyle vocals were a one-time thing.

all a matter of personal taste...i never enjoyed mike's voice--very grating on my ears, but i respect that we all hear things differently & enjoy different music & performers...it sure ain't no crime to prefer Doyle over Mike or Mike over Doyle--enjoy what you enjoy but ya can't expect everyone to always hear it & react to it the way you or i might--to each his own

I'm not sure about Doyle singing, but I would definitely encourage the band to write more songs with him. I also love the song he wrote for Susan's new album, Talking About.

Not too impressed with Doyle's voice. Song writing is pretty good. LOVE Mike Mattison's voice and writing! I hope he never leaves the band.

actually, i totally disagree.

if it was up to me, mike would sing every song, all day, every day and i'd be happy as a clam. i'm a HUGE Scrap-O-Matic fan too.

the songs with Doyle sound to me like Derek had gotten some tips from Eric and Carlos on how to produce a song that would actually sell records, that one track with Doyle on it sounds totally overproduced and popish.
