Actually it's over in Oxon Hill, Md at the National Harbor. Many good shows coming this summer including Derek Trucks, Gov't Mule, Little Feat w/Railroad Earth, Yes w/Asia,

Ticket prices seem to be very reasonable even for the Gold Circle seat ($35 - 40). Lawn seats seem to be in the $15 - 20 range.

Anyway, here's a link

Looks like a beautiful venue! And you can't beat these ticket prices!

Note that according to the security information, you will not be allowed to a bring a cheese grater into the venue. The same goes for knives and guns. I swear, it's true.

I've got two tickets for the dTb - but now I'm reconsidering.

I'd feel naked without my cheese grater....

i went to a conference there last year. it is completely isolated from the city, yet only a 15 minute ride to the middle of DC. very cool area. built specifically for conferences, hotel, shopping and events.

Good news! About time for a place like this in the area to run a weekly series that's affordable and good for families. Also it's great they've avoided and kept away the TicketBastards!

I still need to figure out how to get there from my office in DC - hopefully I don't have to swim....

Ferry from Old Town Alexandria, VA. Which may be the best option for anyone somewhat familiar with the city. This place has serious potention for terrible traffic especially on a weeknight.

Cheese Graters make a very annoying noise maker, like a cow bell when using a stick! Maybe they've had a few malicious cases downtown where they were used as skin graters!

Jim,

You're right, the Metro goes no where near, we're talking Oxon Hill, Md (Bethie's family "old stompin' grounds).

Nevertheless the National Harbor is right off the Beltway, if coming from VA, go across the Woodrow Wilson Bridge, take the 1st exit (National Harbor Exit 2A) and you're there.

From DC, Take I-295 South for approximately 5.5 miles, and take National Harbor Exit 1B.

Sorry for the confusion, I was just saying that for me as an out of towner to the DC area this venue does not save any coin from going into DC proper for a show. Would have been nice if it were in a location such that the metro would be a feasible way for city folks to get out to the ferry though.

That is nice they are avoiding TM, and my guess is that tickets prices are also affordable based on the fact that they are outside DC, much less expense and "entertainment tax" encrued for the bands and venue that way.

Bummer, just looked at the map and did not realize it was south of DC, I was hoping it to be on the north side to avoid most of the DC traffic.

dTb price was $40 for Gold Circle - including fees.

Gold circle is seated area in front of the stage, but not reserved...first come, first seated!

The Tanglewood wine and cheese crowd won't be heading over there any time soon.

[Edited on 5/4/2009 by old_time_fan]

That should not be a problem. You just have to grate or cut the cheese before you enter the venue.

FYI,

The guys that are promoting these shows at the National Harbor are also the guys that put on the Innsbrook Pavilion shows down in Richmond. In addition, they're also booking some shows down in Fredericksburg, Va. I'm sure these bands like have two or three gigs in a row w/o a lot of travel. and it's cool that there are some smaller promoters that haven't sold their sold to TM.

You know this is really the future of the "live' music business, more and more bands and artist instead of just playing the major markets, also be willing to start playing in areas that aren't so overbooked, that a lot of bands and artists that play the major markets aren't being able to draw a good crowd, simply because of "over-saturation" of acts.

Smaller/Medium Markets are great in the fact that a good band or artist will draw well, and more importantly the bands and artists can generate a lot of loyality simply because they're willing to play where a lot of others won't go, and what make especially nice is that TN and Live Nation don't own these markets.

Anyway, here's a link to the promoters.

Yes, Fred--similar bands at all three venues. (No dTb down here, though.)

I'm sure looking forward to that dTb show in August--wherever this venue is located!
