as I continue to listen to more archived shows from Derek and the guys I am starting to become a real fan of Javier Colon's work with the band.

Great recording. Love the version of Pleasant Gardens, and drifting

Yes, Javier has a great voice! I enjoyed seeing him with the band in '02. He wanted to go in a different direction than Derek, though.

Javier has one HELL of a great voice. Very Donny Hathaway/Stevie Wonderish. And great with the Latin stuff. Awesome.
And thanks for bringing my attention to this recording. I loved this era of the band!

I was at that show in 2004 which is now the home of our new HOB.

That was when the Red Sox won the World Series and Susan was singing about it during "Joyful Noise"

Also was a special night to have Javier sit in!

Yeah that show is great with Javier on those few tunes. So great to see him doing I Believe To My Soul. I'd like to actually see him go on with Soul Stew and do this tune again with a horn section. Despite some of Javier's work, the guy has just an incredible voice. Not the best fit for the DTB back then, but you can imagine why Derek was excited about him at the time. The guy just does the Donny Hathaway thing so naturally.

The thing that pisses me off about Javier is that after he left the band they quit playing Big Head Salsa -- one of my all time favorite dTb songs!

Funny, I guess we hadn't met at that point yet.

Saw them do Stevie Wonders song To High one night
Javier's vocal on that was great. He was walking around
the venue talking to the fans very nice guy.
