The Black Crowes finished a few days of recording this past weekend at Levon Helm’s Woodstock-area barn. For the first time ever, the Crowes allowed fans to purchase tickets for the live-in-the-studio sounding recording sessions, which took place over the course of several days.

Each night the group ran through its newest tracks several times, often stopping songs after a few verses, repeating songs several nights in a row and rearranging sections on the fly. Most of the material the Crowes recorded had not been played live, including news songs like “So Many Times,” ‘Make Glad,” “Aimless Peacock,” “Greenhorn,” “The Shady Grove,” “Shine Along,” “What Is Home,” “Fork In The River,” “Roll Old Jeremiah,” “Houston Don't Dream About Me,” “Kept My Soul,” “And The Band Played On,” “A Train Still Makes A Lonely Sound,” “”Good Morning Captain,” “Been A Long Time (Waiting On Love),” “Lady Of Avenue,” The Shady Grove,” “I Ain't Hidin',” “Oh Sweet Nuthin',” “So Many Times,” “The Dolphins,” “Garden Gate,” “The Last Place That Love Lived,” “Appaloosa,” “Little Lizzie Mae” and “Dark Side.”

In addition, Levon Helm and Larry Campbell took the stage with the band for a cover of Willie Dixon’s “Mellow Down Easy,” a track the group recorded as a b-side in the 1990s, and the original “Keep A Knockin,” which has been in rotation for a bit. The Black Crowes are now off until they open a European tour on May 13 in Amsterdam

The stuff is DIFFERENT. Even from Warpaint.

But it's good. I really dig it. It's definitely rootsy, a lot of it had a kind of psychedelic/folky/indian/bluesy vibe... if that's a helpful description at all, haha.

Cold Boy Smile...killer song. I was at the 3rd session and I think it's gonna be a great album from what I heard.
