Sitting at work today jamming to some Santana, and I can't help but imagine that DTB would do a killer version of Oye Como Va, or Black Magic Woman, or any Santana tune. I can just hear Derek's slide ripping up the classic Santana tunes (though neither were actually written by him). What other songs have you always wanted to hear them cover?

I'm really glad you brought this up.
I think they could pick out a few songs from Sea Level and rip em up. Grand Larceny, Cats On The Coast, Had To Fall ( now that everybody except Derek is singing )

Soul Stew...like to see them do Shake A Leg. They had that tune going over the sound system at the last dTb show I was at and I thought it would be a good Soul Stew tune.

Season of the Witch ala Super Session plus any Sea Level tunes, per Haisija's suggestions.

The same song I;ve wanted them to play for years...Herbie Mann's "Push, Push."
I honestly can't believe they haven't done it. One of my favorite Duane contributions ever(SIZZLING guitar work...just unreal), Derek could chop heads with this one while my man Kofi blew fire out of his flute in a call and response approach. The Derek Trucks Band is built perfectly for this cover. Go get 'em boys!

Love the Season of the Witch ala Super Session idea! Also love the Herbi Mann's Push Push one. It would be stunning!

some great ideas. Season of the Witch would be great.

I've been thinking either Spiritual or India from the Coltrane Village Vanguard set.

I was just thinking the other day that Derek would do an incredible version of Santana's Song of the Wind.

Think of what he could do with this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dbXu0EPkkE Carlos' playing on this version even sounds a little like Derek in places.

And work This Sky in there - even though it doesn't have soul in the name.

East-West by Paul Butterfield Blues Band
Within You- Without You- Beatles. I think Derek could rearange the sitar part to a guitar part.

What about the classic blues stuff? I know there was a radio session where Mike and Derek played some of the old stuff, but they could really cut loose on those tracks.

I have been trying to get a hold of an old classic for awhile: The Rockers Soundtrack from 1979 (Derek's birth year, ironically). Finally got it again after not hearing it for 20 years. What a great album. 3 songs on there I'd like to hear dTb or SSR cover: Book of Rules (The Heptones), Stepping Razor (Peter Tosh) or Rockers (Bunny Wailer). This kind of fits with the bands practice of revisiting classics that have been on the shelf for awhile. And Rastaman is such a treat: keep some reggae coming
