Say what you want about Dickey, but this is pure class...

Yall should check out "Dickey Betts" on Ebay. Evidently, one of Dickey's and/or the ABB's road crew members house went up in flames in 1983. Instruments, personal effects, everything sentimental was lost in the fire...Dickey responded by handing over his beautiful Gibson Les Paul Deluxe that was used for that oh-so sweet and pure Betts tone that shot the ABB onto the charts and into the hearts of millions of fans worldwide on the Brothers and Sisters album. Now, 26 years later, Dickey Betts is endorsing the sale of this guitar on Ebay b/c his good buddy has a family member who is in bad shape and needs money for medical bills. Dickey has signed letters of provenance, taken pictures with the current owner for verification, and even signed the back of the head for good measure. I know people have taken sides on the ABB/DB arguments...but I truly believe this is something we can ALL be proud of. Way to go Dickey.

Goldie?

Very nice. Can you post a link? I'd love to see how much this brings. Actually I wish I could afford to be one of the bidders.

Truly believe that Dickey would give me his boots in a blizzard (Northern reference for all you Rebels.) Have only met him a couple of times but that's the "vibe" he gives off.

As usual I'm probably saying it wrong but I guess most folks here will understand...

Not Goldie...and unfortunately I don't know how to post links. Go to www.ebay.com and type 'Dickey Betts' into the search engine. Its real easy and the guitar is the first item you will see, along with the story, pictures, guitar specs, etc...The guitar is beautiful and fully modified to bring sweet, smooth and soaring notes directly to the dome. Interesting read, really. I'm no guitar tech so this might not make sense, but it reads something to the effect of being wired so you can switch to an acoustic(like?) tone, straight to an all-out Les Paul roar...two different input jacks, seemingly. I don't know, but it looks delicious. If only I had $25,000-$45,000. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll have enough time to sell my body repeatedly to raise the cash before the auction ends. Thanks Father Time...'preciate 'ya!

This is the Les Paul that was used on Brothers & Sisters. Bidding is up to around $20,000 and the reserve has not been met yet. This topic has been posted in Shop Talk for a few days now. There are some cool mods that have been done to it, including at one time an acoustic guitar pick up that allowed him to be plugged in to the PA system and his amp at the same time. Lots of pictures that show an extensive and exhaustive view/history of the guitar. I wish them lots of luck overcoming their family health issues. Dickey looks good with a full beard too!

This is not surprising to me.... As with many other times in the past... Dickey walks the walk and talks the talk.... He does have a very Big Heart.... and seems to do the right thing in many circumstances.

I dig Dickey Betts.... wish I could bid on it...

Yeah, I'd love to bid on this too but I don't think I could do it justice.

Maybe, though.

Very nice gesture for him to part with such an important and historical guitar. This should be on display at the R&R Hall of Fame for all to see!!!

Dickey rocks.

The bidding for this guitar ended Tuesday. The final bid was $25,001.00 and the reserve was not met. I wonder how much they reall wanted for it?

It being a '72 Les Paul doesn't necessarily make it valuable, but the star ownership brings the value up. If it were mine, I believe I would have taken the $25K and ran.
