What's a great list of solos without Comfortably Numb -

1994 Pink Floyd, Earls Court: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJZYG5qwHHI

Gilmour in 2002: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6eEfXyAHf0E

Gilmour in 2006: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1JoN5up0B0

Floyd reunited for Live8: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jySUpMqmzd4

IMHO the most epic guitar solo of all time...

I've also heard that he is autistic and I've also heard he has asberger's. But none of that matters when talking about guitar playing, right?

Other than Jimi, I can't think of anyone else who had the music flow from them so effortlessly. Good link lolasdeb - I hadn't seen that version before.

I know there's a lot of young guitarists with blazing chops that set fretboards aflame, but I need good melody to really touch my soul. Something that takes me on a ride that I can follow and enjoy. The old guitar gods tend to own much of that turf (Derek excepted, of course). Here's something I think qualifies; Robin Trower doing Daydream -

This might be a little more obscure, Andy Latimer of Camel fame, doing Ice. Starts simply, but what a build up following the keyboard solo -

Me too. That being said I have to throw Duane and Eric in here for Layla, and some of the most beautiful guitar work ever in a song

Not sure if this was meant towards my link but if it is...Bucket is in his early 40's so I wouldn't classify him as young. And why not, here's a nice melodically beautiful song to touch your soul.

I don't know about the state of his menatl health, but he does seem to cultivate eccentricities. Autism and Asbergers have nothing to do with wearing a mask and a KFC bucket.

Not directly aimed at your link, but more a general comment of technical wizardry over musicality.

BTW - that second Buckethead link is very nice - thanks!

There's certainly guys with both highly technical skills and musicality. One of my favorites in that regard is John Petrucci doing Damage Control -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8pUqln36po&feature=channel_page

But I'm still partial to the old farts. Here's Steve Hackett in 2004 with Firth of Fifth -

No, but if you're autistic or have asberger's then you have difficulty communicating with people and maybe if he does have either of those then wearing a mask onstage helps with him not having to communicate to people, thus making it easier for him. Again, just speculation of course.
