I've got to make one of these shows! Never seen the 'Dan before. I watched a recent DVD - some of the finest (non-jam) musicians you'll ever see! One of my favorite bands of all-time!

Saw them twice at the Beacon over the last few years. They always tour with an outstanding band and mix up the setlist a bit. They are definitely worth seeing!!

I was wondering if they were going to start making The Beacon an annual stop. Saw them the last couple of years they stopped by, hope they drop in again this year, always a great show.

Wish they were going to be in my neighborhood!!! Love Steely Dan! Great live show and Donald Fagen is a hoot! These guys have one of the most humorous websites!

Holy crap! Steely Dan has been one of my favorite bands forever....and they're going to be in Atlanta on a Saturday night....I think I may be forced to go to this show!! And I'm thinking I'll be taking my daughter who turns 19 in June because she loves them too.....maybbe I can get the band to dedicate "Hey Nineteen" to her!

If you like their music, have not seen them live, and have the means, SEE STEELY DAN. They have been touring a lot over the last decade, but they are very whimsical characters. You never know when you are going to see their last tour. I'm sure they like the touring money, but they don't "need" it. Don and Walt actually seem like they're having a good time nowadays. The band is top notch. While each respective tour has a pretty standard setlist, each tour has mixed it up quite a bit, with a lot of deeper cuts than you might imagine.
I just heard that on this tour, NYC, Boston, Chicago, and LA are going to get multiple night stands that will include entire album performances as well as on-line setlist voting for ticket holders of certain shows.
I just might have to breakdown and hit them up at The Beacon "one more time".

Here's a link to their site that deals with specifics of these special shows...
http://www.steelydan.com/tour09us.html

And like Mule75 said - these guys are very whimsical (Rent Money Tour? ) and put on a great show. If you like Steely Dan you won't be disappointed.

And if you want a good laugh check out some of their correspondence from the road and other stuff on their website. For example...

The 2000 Steely Dan Tour was some of the best Live music I've ever heard. Saw it twice in 4 days. It was that good.

Saw them again in '06, and it was a greatest hits crowd sing along. Terrible.

Saw both of those tours. Can't see where a singalong greatest hits show could be considered terrible though. Good tunes played well usually make for a good show.
Caught them a few times last year and it was a very "fan"-oriented setlist. They played A LOT of deep cuts that the casual crowd probably had never heard.
You can't please everybody.

I saw the Dan in 1993 at Poplar Creek in NW suburban Chicago, when Fagen was pushing "Kamakiriad," his solo album. They played about half that album, Dan classics and a couple tunes from Becker's solo album "11 Tracks Of Whack," which IIRC was released the following year.

We had lawn seats and the crowd was completely obnoxious, loud, overweight and really wasted. There was also some goofy woman breast feeding her baby the entire time, who made no effort to hide her boobs. That was a WEIRD show. Some of the Fagen tracks like "Teahouse On The Tracks" were REALLY dragged out. I wasn't impressed, but I love all things Steely Dan in general.

I see from the list of this year's band that Keith Carlock is still on drums. Seeing them the last few tours, he's the one guy in the band who I didn't enjoy. Too much of a pounder for my tastes, over-playing the kit with little subtlety. You'd think with Becker and Fagen's refined tastes they'd find someone a bit more tasty on drums.

Maybe they could persuade Bernard Purdie to come out with them...a little Purdie Shuffle anyone?

Saw them in Denver a couple of years ago...had waited a long time to see them live.
It was SO worth it. They had 2 different drummers here, one did half, then the other guy came in. Don't remember names, the first seemed younger. Boy did he ever get a workout though! The only strange thing, yuppie crowd. I told my friend I'd never seen so many guys in khaki shorts!! When did we get old???? They've got to be the best studio band ever and they were great live too. Hope they come back this way again.

When I saw them in 1993, I think Peter Erskine of Weather Report fame was on drums. He was awesome.

"fan"-oriented setlist....
I love that. Absolutely.

"They played A LOT of deep cuts that the casual crowd probably had never heard"
Perfect!... God forbid.... people might actually listen, because they don't know the words.

I would like to see this tour somewhere. But the Renault obligations will prevent it.
