Just to let everyone know since I am here now that all the electric sites are gone just like was reported. All Hotel/motels are gone. My RV will be slam full even.

The River is all the way up to the canoe outpost. There is no beach. All the canoes are on top of the hill to keep from floating away. It has gone down about 3 feet in the last few days and should be fine by Wanee.

I am really looking forward to seeing you all at my home away from home. The Suwannee River Jam is starting tomorrow. Cross Canadian Ragweed is who I can't wait to see.

Till another day!

Thanks for the update Jessie! They have that pool next to the restaurant up and running? See if you can find out if we'll have access to it during Wanee. Have a great week and we'll be seeing you SOON

I wanna Wanee right now. It's hard to believe the Suwannee River was expected to be 6 feet above flood stage just a few days ago. Warjag is right that it will be fine for Wanee. Lots of residents in Suwannee and nearby counties have been flooded out of their homes...it is so sad to watch the news around here.
I expect the state bird (mosquito) population will be large at Wanee due to all this rain in the area so come prepared with mosquito netting outfits galore and repellent and citronella candles!

Happy Earth Day everyone!

Citronella really doesn't help all that much according to experts. I use Skin so soft (ghey) to keep the bugs away.

Check out the following things that attract mosquitos:
Mosquito Attractants
Use this list of items and activities that attract mosquitoes as a list of things to avoid or that can be used as bait to lure mosquitoes away from you.

Dark Clothing
Many mosquitoes use vision to locate hosts from a distance. Dark clothes and foliage are initial attractants.

Carbon Dioxide
You give off more carbon dioxide when you are hot or have been exercising. A burning candle or other fire is another source of carbon dioxide.
Lactic Acid
You release more lactic acid when you have been exercising or after eating certain foods (e.g., salty foods, high-potassium foods).

Floral or Fruity Fragrances
In addition to perfumes, hair products, and scented sunscreens, watch for the subtle floral fragrance from fabric softeners and dryer sheets.
Skin Temperature
The exact temperature depends on the type of mosquito. Many mosquitoes are attracted to the slightly cooler temperatures of the extremities.

Moisture
Mosquitoes are attracted by perspiration because of the chemicals it contains and also because it increases the humidity around your body. Even small amounts of water (e.g., moist plants or mud puddles) will draw mosquitoes. Standing water also allows mosquitoes to reproduce.

Natural Repellents

These natural products will effectively repel mosquitoes, but they require more frequent reapplication (at least every 2 hours) and higher concentrations than DEET. Because of the differences between types of mosquitoes, products that contain multiple repellents tend to be more effective than those containing a single ingredient. As you can see, natural repellents tend to be volatile plant oils.

Citronella Oil
Lemon Eucalyptus Oil
Cinnamon Oil
Castor Oil
Rosemary Oil
Lemongrass Oil
Cedar Oil
Peppermint Oil
Clove Oil
Geranium Oil
Possibly Oils from Verbena, Pennyroyal, Lavender, Pine, Cajeput, Basil, Thyme, Allspice, Soybean, and Garlic

Basically, if they can't smell you they can't find you.

I will be packing the 'garlic gel-caps'.....the girls--unfortunately will be staying 'away' but so will the mosquito's. I swear by 'goodness' that the garlic WORKS!!! Get the 'stinky' kind...not the 'de-toxed'.....

quote off another site. I have seen this in just about everycamp ground I have camped at.

RE: Mosquito Repellent Plants
Post By (Guest Post) (06/02/2008)

I know this is going to sound weird, but it works! One day sitting on the patio at one of my favorite El Salvadoran restaurants, I noticed gallon size baggies of what appeared to be water hanging in the trees. I asked the waiter what they were there for and he said they kept the mosquitoes away. He did not know how, but he said that was what they did at home (in El Salvador). Sure enough, I, whom my family refers to as their mosquito repellent, did not have a single bite! I hung bags in my back yard and had my first (nearly) bite free summer!

I see there is clothing that is treated to be a repellent. Maybe it'll be windy and the darn things won't be as bad! Pray for wind...

Yes the pool will be up. A story here. I went to the River three Wanee's ago and there was about 50 people skinny dipping in mid April. Can you imagine June.

You gonna be one of them Helen?

By the way at the Suwannee River Jam had the largest crowd ever. If you like old country like Merle Haggard go see Jamie Johnson. Fantastic!

The crowd sucked though....bunch of drunk redneks.

so there is a restaurant on site? what are the hours? Also are the vendors open around the clock? I am hoping to depend solely on the vendors for my meals, is that possible? what sort of food is available? sorry for the bombardment of questions, it just seemed like the right time to ask

There will be plenty of food vendors. The restaurant on site is pretty good. There are food vendors through out. Mostly in the gates near the Peach stage. A few over near the mushroom stage too. If music is playing food will be served............

I hope to bring some firewood for the campfire.

That will help keep the skeeters away
