Did anybody read that article Ethan Hawke did about Kristofferson in Rolling Stone. I thought it was a good article. Better than the Little Wayne one by alot. I want to check out some of his music whats a good place to start. I like John Hiatt and John Prine is his music similar to those two?

I have a best of Kris on 2 LPs that is very good. Has his versions of all the hits he wrote for others.

His last record "THis Old Road" is really good. some of his best writing I think.

He did a record in 99 called "The Austin Sessions" revisiting many of his best songs.

I would start with those 2.

There is also a 2 CD set called "The essential Kristopherson" that has all the good stuff on it.

I haven't read that article yet. maybe tonight.

Not being a "Greatest Hits" kind of guy, I would recommend his self-titled debut for starters. Its a great, great disc.

Some of my favorite Kris Kristofferson songs: Sunday Morning Coming Down,
Help Me Make it Through the Night, Me and Bobby McGee,
They Killed Him (this song was covered by Bob Dylan), Best of All Possible Worlds.
I saw Kris with The Highwaymen (Willie, Waylon & Johnny) years ago and Kris'
gruff voice worked well within that context.

His early material was remarkable,IMO....but,Man...his singing is another thing. I've seen a lot of great songwriters who just don't sing very well...& Kris tops my list....

I'd say 'The Silver Tounged Devil And I", his second LP, is his best non comp. The first is good two and the third, 'Border Lord'. Those three are his best period IMO. I like his singing, its soulful and expressive.

Kris actually did a real good set but poor sound and a riot taking place a the time didn't help the situdation. Luckily, he was welcomed back later in the festival to re-do his set, which went down better.

It is an excellent article, and I plan to re-read it today.

Aw, poor Toby Keith...

Highly recommended, go see this incredible legend if you get the chance. What a fascinating individual, in addition to his amazing song writing skills, the guys has lived an amazing life.
I have been fortunate enough to see him 3 times, on 2 of those occasions with Willie Nelson, and he truly puts on an incredible show.
