I'm just wondering if it is ok to record at any show that I go to? And it is tape from your seat right? I'm hoping to record the upcoming Portland, Oregon show so I can enjoy it later AND share it. Thanks for any feedback, Kirk

Yes, it is ok and yes, it is tape from your seat. The ABB allows taping.

I used to tape like crazy from my seat! However it was just a little stereo cassette recorder with a stereo microphone, nuthin fancy. But I used to get a lot of tapes out of it. Eventually when DAT and digital taping phased out cassettes I decided to stop (too many people were laughing at me and my cheap "equipment." Also, with the introduction of Instant Live, I knew that a nice soundboard CD recording was a much better bet. Nevertheless I still like listening to my old tapes.

Little know fact, you're also allowed to go on stage and tape. If only for a very brief moment.

Not true, you can't even have a cell phone on stage... you mean streak... that's OK if you are fast.

It does help if you have a note from your Doctor.

There was a guy who climbed up on the stage at PNC a couple of yars ago- he could barely stand up. But a security guard dashed across the stage from the opposite end and tackled him like he was trying to kill the president. He probably need to see his doctor the next day when he sobered up.

From your seat is probably the best option. You have to be pretty drunk to climb on stage, but if you are dunk enough to go on stage, you are probably too drunk to elude security. And the sound mix on stage is not that good. But if you're drunk enough you won't care. Does that help?

And this is true even though the tickets for the Portland, Oregon show in May say no recording?

Why don't you phone the venue, explain about the ABB taping policy and see what they say. I'm not a taper so I don't know what tapers say to security at the venues. I've never heard anything on this board about tapers being prevented from taping at any ABB shows.

It would be nice if someone in the know from the Portland area could jump in here.
