Not content with fronting two brilliant bands in the shape of The White Stripes and The Raconteurs and being the most exciting guitarist on the face of the planet, Jack White's new project sees him occupy the drum stool.

The Dead Weather consists of Kills singer Alison Mosshart, Raconteur Jack Lawrence on bass, Queens Of The Stone Age's Dean Fertita on guitar, with White contributing drums and vocals.

Launching the band at his new Third Man Records HQ in Nashville last night, The Dead Weather played a 20 minute set for 150 invitees.

Expect a debut album entitled Horehound in June, preceded by the single Hang You From The Heavens, which is available now on vinyl and through iTunes.

Visit www.thedeadweather.com to hear the single's B-side a cover of Gary Numan's Are Friends Electric?.

Last month MusicRadar reported on Jack White's new 'supergroup' The Dead Weather and their brief, five-song coming-out performance at a party in Nashville.

Things must have gone well, because the band is about to play their first official show on 14 April at the Bowery Ballroom in New York City.

If you have plans to be in the Big Apple that night (or you're a superfan and care to hop on a plane), tickets go on sale today, 8 April, at 10am EST.

Visit The Dead Weather's website for ticket information.

Said to be a mixture of raw blues, psychedelia and detached cool (sounds like a White project), The Dead Weather consists of Kills singer Alison Mosshart, Raconteur Jack Lawrence on bass, Queens Of The Stone Age's Dean Fertita on guitar and White, who plays drums and vocals (although we suspect he sneaks a guitar part in here and there).

The band's debut single Hang You From The Heavens, available now on vinyl and through iTunes, can be heard (and seen) here. Check out the B-side, a brazen version of Gary Numan's Are Friends Electric? below.

This is one of the reasons that this guy takes abuse from people. Over-rated does not even begin to describe him. Publicity is one thing but making claims like that only makes people judge him. Next he will be descibed as the greatest drummer who ever lived.

Does he supply the drugs or something?

I agree his not one of the most exciting guitarists on the face of the planet, but anyone who plays through a Sears Silvertone amplifier cant be all bad!!!

The definition of "supergroup" is different for these people than it is for me.

Jack White isn't bad at all, but nowhere near worth the hype he gets.

I use to feel like alot of you about Jack. I am not defending him by any means, but after I watched the Racounters play at Bonnaroo this past summer , I was impressed. And I never owned anything by Jack before that either. But after hearing that I got turned on to what he was doing. It was kinda like a breath of fresh air in a way, something different to my ears. So I went to the local library and checked out the entire White Stripes catalog and both of the Racounters and took them home for a long listen. Now I don't like everything on those but the majority of it is pretty decent. I like alot of his blusey/slide type crunchy riffs he plays and I think he has a good sene of melody. Do I think he is a great guitar player, no. He serves the music and song he writes though. All guitar players are different so you can't compare. I like Angus just as much as Warren and Jimmy page. Yet one maybe more basic , but the quality is no less.
