After many years of procrastinating, I am finally going to head out west to catch the ABB at Red Rocks. I am planning to take some vacation days and make it a real vacation. Can any veterans of the area/venue provide feedback on must things to do (additional music venues, restaurants, hiking trails, waterfalls). I am an avid hiker and camper and would love to find a base campground that is close to the venue (will have a car). Additionally, hotel recommendations would be greatly appreciated as I am not sure I can convince my friends to camp for 8 days

Heres a link that might be helpful.

Camping/ Campgrounds anyways.

The Marriot west is where most stay but there are less expensive accomodations close by as well, just google up the motel chains/denver

Hope to finally meet up with you at Red Rocks

Buzzy - if you enjoy hiking, camping you will love your visit to Red Rocks (plus, there will surely be an opportunity to meet SmilingJack, the mayor of Denver , and his lovely wife Phyllis). Jack will probably be reading this and give you some good input to things like local music venues, restaurants, etc He has also indicated that he and Tommy (SouthPaw) have been talking about a meet and great ... last year Tommy's excellent band played at a local club, Dulcinea's, in Denver (after Jack opened his house for pre-pre party )

Red Rocks is an absolutely gorgeous place to catch a show. Many from this site who attend the ABB shows there stay at Denver Marriott West (which is actually in Golden). Nice and close to the venue in Morrison. The band also stays here so you never know who will be eating breakfast at the adjoining table. I'm including links to some sites on the town of Golden, Golden Gate Canyon Park (very nice with camping facilities), Mount Evans (which is also close and beautiful place for hiking), and the Denver mountain parks system (lol - you are lucky ... I am planning a June camping trip to Colorado so had a lot of this info immediately available )

A cool town that's not to far from Golden is Boulder. College town, laid back, and there are some amazing parks surrounding it.

If you are going to be spending some time in the area don't forget about Rocky Mountain Nat'l Park - you are not far away when you are in Golden and it is breathtaking if you've never been. Plenty of hiking and waterfalls here (note - Estes Park is a zoo IMO ... I try to get through that as quickly as possible)
