Last night I baked some chocolate chip cookies and for the first time in about 10 years, I didn't have anyone to share the beaters with. It sucked. It was kind of weird how quiet it was (and is) without Eddie and Jake around. They sure were a lot of fun.

I hope things are well boys. We miss ya. Hopefully you've run into some of your siblings and you're all running with the pack!

One of my favorite pics.

Had to put one of my dogs down about 2 weeks ago. One of the hardest things I ever had to do. He would have been 18 in July. Man I sure miss him walking around the house. I sure love dogs.

Strat - I love that pic of Eddie and Jake taking a lick from the beaters! You can really see in their body language just how much they are enjoying their treat - sitting just so, ears back the way dogs do when they go to their nirvana place. Just like any kid when mom or dad are mixing up something yummy. Being a dog lover myself I can relate to how you must be missing your friends ... my heart goes out to you.

My Lola just turned 11 this past February and although she sometimes acts like a puppy and enjoys running around I've noticed lately that she seems to be a little more stiff when getting up and it tears at my heart ... I couldn't have dreamt up a better 4 legged friend if I tried ... it's been a great priviledge in my life to be her person.

Hey Strat, I feel for you. I still miss my German sheperd, Sanson,who died in 1980.
He was such a good and loving dog. I miss my big orange cat, Gato. I'll never forget him..
And Louie, a beautiful cat and the sweetest little animal ever. I miss my ferrets, Inky, Bonny
and Billy who brought light to my life and made me laugh over a fourteen year period. And
my chidhood companions. They all own a piece of my heart. I have some wonderful memories.
So do you. Our companion dogs, cats, ferrets, make such a difference in our lives.

Beautiful dogs, can easily understand how you miss them so much. We have a spot in our house with pics of the various great ( and all very different from each other) dogs we've had over the years, they just don't live long enough do they...

I read this post yesterday and thought briefly about Henry. Then last night, I was watching TV and a dog food commercial with some cute puppies came on and REALLY had me thinking abut Henry. I miss how he'd come over to me and want me to rub on him. I'm still not ready for another dog yet, though.

I get a kick out of dogs. The way they look. The way they cock their heads to strange sounds. The way they act when you come home. Their cockiness. The most I love is their unconditional love for their masters. I think back about all the dogs I have had, and I miss them all too.

We call him Uncle Trucks

Awesome picture. I love my Mackenzie (my big arsed Golden Retriever moose), and miss Seamus (a wee Shetland Sheepdog), me ol' boyo. Nothing like the unconditional love of a dog. My girls could dress Seamus up and push him in their baby doll carriage - or wheel him around in the back of their wagon. He didn't care as long as he was with them. A grand ol boy he was. Mackenzie thinks her whole body is the size of her head, and is just a sweetie!

I always loved these thoughts:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Why did God make dogs? I don’t think it was accidental. Certainly there are exceptions, and certainly people can breed dogs to bring out the worst in them, but in general there is nothing more selfless, loving or patient than a dog. Mistreat it and it comes back to you anyway. Ignore it and it never gives up hope that you will be its friend again. Make it wait days to go play and it will be ready. It offers you friendship and companionship and in return asks only for food, water and an occasional scratch behind the ears.
Why would God bother to make such a creature? I suppose that if dogs were like people they would eventually give up on us… but they never do. A dog’s love is almost impossible to destroy, because it’s not a love you earn — it’s simply a love you are given. In other words, dogs love unconditionally. Unconditionallove, unending patience, with faithfulness to the very end.
Do you suppose, just perhaps, that God made dogs to show us a little something about Himself? Do you think maybe “man’s best friend” is really pointing us to the One who is truly our very best friend?
You could learn a lot from a dog. Dog spelled backward is “God.”
Aye, there's that! But it still doesn't stop Mackenzie from eating the garbage or HAVING to greet me with something in her mouth - whether it be tissues, a sock (none of us in my house seem to have matching socks anymore) or if she is outside a leaf or stick. There is ALWAYS a present!
And when I bring her for a walk on the beach (by the bay), I can't keep her out of the water - and random kids will just stand there and continuously throw sticks to her - she will get them and swim with them - she once had 4 in her mouth at one time! LOL
You're first post Dorthyann is getting making me all choked up. Unfortunately I'm at work right now.
As I've said before, I really believe if there is a hereafter and we end up where our dogs and our other pets are, we then can say truly that we lived honorable lives.
All the best to everyone and your pets!
I'm hoping there's one too,all I want is for Jessie, KD and Koola to knock me over trying to be the first one to greet me....
cool thread with some wonderful photos! Feelin' for ya StratDal -- all our dogs over the years -- our labs Sam, Rose, Abe, Perkins & Belle -- have been like members of my family too
My friends have a golden that used to steal my underwear when I was in the shower, or even get it out of my bags. Then she would parade all around with my dirty boxers, greeting everybody until you could wrestle, and I do mean wrestle them away. She wasn't exclusively a men's underwear thief, either. It was alway funny when she came around with someone's panties or bra. I guess Gracie is around 12 now.
Brother Dave, it may be time. I greived over the loss of my Molly dog for several months. My ex had two, one that I loved, and one that I despised, but never could make that connection with the one that I loved. Finally, Lesa said - you need to get a dog of your own. It was only about 8 months after I let Molly go when I got Pearl as a pup. She immediatelly stole my heart even though she was the wildest pup you can imagine. Over six years later, Pearl has seen me through the death of a best friend, a beloved grandmother, and a very traumatic divorce, it wasn't ugly, just heartbreaking. I look forward to going home and seeing her everyday. She is so goofy, but she is also so affectionate.
If you miss Henry that bad, it's time to start a new friendship. It won't be a replacement by any means. Life is too short to spend too much of it without a dog.
I think that dogs riding in cars is hilarious. I have said this on this site before. I wonder if they know where they are going? I wonder if they know where they are? Do they recognize the road home? Do they get tired of riding? Do they wonder when the hell are we going to get where ever we are going? Do they ever need pee stops??
This is not about dogs, but cats. I don't like cats as much as dogs but enjoy them. But the past few weeks I have been having dreams where I reach down to pet a cat and it jumps, bites, and clings on my hand and I can't shake it off. Whats that all about?
Mine knows when we are close to home. She also knows when I am taking her to Mom and Dad's several turns before I turn on to their road. When I have her in the truck and we pass the bank where I do a lot of my business, she gets kinda pissed, because she gets a biscuit at the drive through. IF I do turn into the bank, she goes nuts.
So, to a limited extent, I do think they are aware of where they are if it is a familiar destination.
And, yes, pulling up beside a car with a happy dog going for a ride is hilarious.
