Anyone have TV on when falling asleep? When I go to bed I go there to sleep and don't have TV on. But I know other people who say they can't fall asleep without it (or some other kind of "noise") and I know people who leave the TV on all night long, some of the same people that must have their cell phone right next to them while they sleep. I guess they want to be able to wake up send a text message and check the weather throughout the night?

Not for me give me silence to sleep and messages can wait for the next day.

Re: the cell phone ... I'm oncall every 3rd week for work so I do sleep with it on my bedside table for that ... and pray it doesn't ring!!! The rest of the time I forget to turn it on.

TV - I've fallen asleep with it on before but not intentionally.

Sometimes when i fall to sleep, it comes on and watches me.

I open my eyes, and it's off.

But soon as i close my eyes, bang, i know it's on.

Just staring at me.

some people like "white noise".

a fan running, a cd of a flowing brook or jungle noises or ocean waves.

something soothing and not really listened to but "background noise"

I use Obama speeches. I'm asleep in 2 minutes.

I love the sleep timer. 30 minutes and I'm out within 30 seconds.

When my nephew was about 10, he came to visit me before I took him backpacking. I had the guest room all ready, yet he came out before he went to bed with a look of horror, "there's no TV in here." Apparently, he could not sleep w/o it on, so I had to give him my room with the TV. Such a thing had never occurred to me before that.

I like to nap in the middle of NASCAR races. There's just something soothing about the drone of the engines.

No TV on at night for me. I used to let the radio play all night, but haven't done that in years. I like to hear the wind in the eucalyptus trees up on this ridge I live on. I like to hear the coyotes, too.

In college I had insomnia and would play cd's all night.
Mostly jazz.

Now, I'm just flat out exhausted anymore and just crash.
Also, like Deb, on call every two weeks but have a pager for that ...

I can't just go straight to bed. I have to fall asleep on the couch with the TV on, then I'll wake up and head upstairs.

I sleep with the TV on...

I have a company issued cell phone and I am on call 24/7. However, I never bring it in the house

I'd love to have total peace and quiet for sleep, but in NY that does not ever happen, so I have some white noise to mask out the other noises, and if I'm really tired, I use ear plugs plus white noise.

I like it pitch black and dead quiet when it's time to go to sleep. And no cell phone in the room.

Sleep timers are a nice feature, although the people I know don't use them. I've always been big on turning out lights that aren't in use, just think it is good common sense. Had an uphill battle with that one with my wife's kids. I never even tried to get them turn off their TVs at night, just figured it wouldn't happen. Maybe smart grid technology can turn off things that other people don't think should be left on

Then there is cell phone chargers plugged in constantly. I swear that is a fire harzard with the exposed metal prongs at the end of some models. Again, uphill battle on that one. I went around the house just unplugging them every day. Think they got the message, no. Now I am amazed how many houses I go into and see them just plugged into an outlet with no phone on the end of it.
