If anyone is looking for something to do today and is in or will be in NYC - today is the Tartan Day Parade - celebrating Scottish heritage. Now it is not quite like a St. Patrick's Day parade - it is more like a shyte load of pipers and drummers who show up and just barrel down the street in a free for all! Quite fun to say the least!

http://www.tartanweek.com/

With 50 mph winds here and in the City - it should be QUITE INTERESTING to watch the kilts a flyin!

Afterwards, may have a wee dram, and go see the Red Hot Chili Pipers (who are great) rock n roll w/bagpipes in the band as well!

Have a grand Saturday, me friends! If anyone is there - I'll be the long haired blonde piper.

Slan!
DA

PS - Wore a mini kilt to work yesterday - and whoa! let's just say, I should shake things up at work a little more often!!

LOL - if the wind in NY was anything like the wind in Middle Earth today I'll bet those kilts were a-flying!!! DA - I'll be sharing this website with my coworker - the Scottish bagpiper! He will love this!

I have NO IDEA who shot this video - but I'm thinking he or she was drinking from the same flask as some of us!

Yes - we were a bunch of horny souls on Saturday. You might catch a glimpse of me - I'm in the beige sweater about 10 seconds in...

Yeah - I was in the second or 3rd row, over to the right...I dunno who gave us that name, but we had some top notch pipers playing (along with a band from Ireland - county Armagh), so dunno what was up with that!

Well, although my blood stems back to Ireland, I guess we're all rooted from Celts, and it was my pleasure to honor the Scottish and their/your history (but I still like whiskey better than Scotch!)

McDonald on my mother's side, my father's family is from the Orkneys as well but somebody gave my great great grandfather a new surname upon arrival in Canada. There's also the family myth that he immigrated to NY and was escorted to the border for stealing livestock and got a new name that way....

My father was in two Highland Regiments and the sound of pipes were a fairly regular thing around our house growing up. Love 'em.

That is cool being from Orkney. I have never met anyone that had ancestors from The Orkney Islands. We visited there once, found my great grandfathers farm and their grave sites. Very beautiful place.

I'm primarily of English ancestry, but on my maternal side, I got some Scotch/Irish blood....McConnell and MacClellan. Matter of fact, one of my more prominent maternal ancestors was named...George McConnell.
