So quit yer' complaining - .mps - 256KB or FLAC for a 2.8 hour show at $15-$17 is a good price.
Stuff costs money.....

What happened to the shows that were there before??? Did they take them down because of the CDs HTN are selling. Not cool. I was gonna download 3/20 tonight. Oh well, I've decided to just enjoy the flac recordings of the entire run that are on the way. If they decide to put the shows up for download I will purchase them then.

Same thing happened with Old and in the Way 10/08/73 Borading House, San Francisco, CA Full-Show Soundboard Recording on www.livedownload.com.

The show was up and gone in like 1 or 2 days.

I hope common sense prevails and they put the shows back up for download mp3/FLAC.

Give the people what they want

I should have grabbed them as soon as I got home ....

Hopefully they will be uploaded again. If you did get your download, it wasn't a hoax, so there is hope ....

There are no downloads for this show for the time being.

Mind the "for the time being"
Guess that, since it was already visible at Munck, obviously by mistake, it won't take too long now for being officially released.

All good things in all good time... I have a hunch that once all the shows have been mixed, mastered, and approved (that being the key word) by the Brothers, the downloads will be back...

Joe (JNB) had an explaining post in another thread, which I think everyone must see.
It explains a lot (only wished it was done earlier). Also it states that eventually there will be donloads! And a request not to copy & distribute SBD's, which request I strongly support.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the kind words and in regards to the criticisms – we try to learn from them as well. However, when someone claims we are ripping people off and hammering them on price – it is disheartening. Especially when those that say this are on the outside looking in and really don’t know all the facts. Let’s talk about some of these facts.

Price - the Beacon is one of the most expensive venues to release recordings from. Nothing is cheap in NYC. The cost to house the sound engineer, eating every day, flying to and from, royalties for the songs (especially covers), remixing cost, manufacturing cost, artwork cost, legal fees, venue fees, etc. Some of you may remember back a few years ago (2004) when there was a great show at PNC but no Instant Live - the venue cost to record was just too high - no money would have been made. We can't draw on stock money reserves like Amazon and lose millions. We have to make ends meet or there is no Hittin' the Note or Munck Mix. None of us are getting rich at this - I went ten years before my first paycheck. It has taken a thousand baby steps to get where we are and it was because of the love of the music and the ABB family of bands, not the money made.

The price of the Beacon Box is $499.00. It has 47 CDs, a custom made box (that is not cheap) and 40 photographs (that are not free). It is offered for the collector, not for the masses. It’s not for everyone. The 2008 Summer Set box was 48 CDs and cost a little more – even though we gave away 4 free shows. But we can’t afford to give away free shows every time – certainly not from the Beacon. The average cost per CD (including the Beacon Box and photographs) is $499/47 = $10.62 per CD. That is not ripping anyone off. The cost for individual shows is $9.00 per CD. Should the best run this band has ever done, with an incredible array of guest talent, be a discounted product?

Just think - you have your option of a soundboard CD (most expensive), eventual downloads (less expensive) and B&Ps (practically free). Not a bad situation. Think of it from our perspective - how many times does HTN and the ABB get ripped off when people copy these soundboard shows for their friends? ALL THE TIME! Instant Live went out of business because of this. We are very lucky Munck Mix is willing to continue doing what they do for so little profit. Thanks so much to those of you that don't copy - it keeps us in business.

CDR vs. duplication. I assume you are talking duplication vs. replication. If we have enough quantity we can do duplication - it takes longer and cost more and is a better quality. But, from an inventory perspective, it is a nightmare. For example, let's use a thousand copies of a show as a minimum requirement for replication. What happens if we only sell 500? We've lost a lot of money. Again, we can't lose money or we are out of business. Look at what is happening in the music business - labels are going out of business all the time. There are very few record stores left, many magazines have gone under. Our business model may be a dinosaur as well – your support or lack of it will determine our success.

To further give you an example of the kind of people we are – HTN has never increased our subscription price for our magazine in 17 years - we just tried to give better quality whenever we could. Think how much postage and printing have gone up in 17 years! We put our profits back into what we offer you - no one is getting rich. Think about what margins the companies you work for charge - can you stay in business for a 10% margin? 20%? 30%? Standard retail is 100% markup - we don't do one fifth of that

Underhanded methods? I am not familiar with anyone from Hittin' the Note saying anything about Moogis and what would and wouldn't be offered. Not sure where that is coming from. We always try and be truthful - even if it is bad news.

In closing let me wrap this up by focusing on the positives and saying thank you to those that support what we try to do. It's been a good 17 year run for Hittin' the Note. We've tried our best to be honest and fair and never rip someone off. Please remember that you can't get something for nothing - at least not for very long. I think we have been very lucky to work with a band that listens to its fans. When you do business with us you are supporting the artists directly, not some huge corporation. It feels good - thank you!

JNB

I'm guessing the business plan is to milk the physical media and then whip out
the downloads.

That's OK, I can wait.
