This memory just came to me. Derek began the solo straight lead and then switched to slide half way through, as is usual for him. However, he went back to straight lead to end the solo and it was just jaw dropping, breathtaking. My question is, did his slide fall off his finger during his solo? Never saw him play it that way before and my speculation is that the slide may have fallen off. Will study the Moogis replay later, but maybe someone knows this??

He put the slide back in his pocket, did not fall off.

No such thing as a "best" Whipping Post, but this one was one of the most intense I've witnessed.

Even my casual fan wife thought it was unbelievable.

He definitely put the slide back in his pocket near the end. I'm not sure I've ever seen him do that before- he was INTO something with that solo and wasn't ready to let it go. Really amazing stuff and definitely (one of?) the best Whipping Posts I've been lucky enough to see. That was a hell of a performance that night. And almost 20 minutes, too!

I finally watched this on Moogis to see what this talk was all about and holy crap was that over the top !!

I was in the 4th row infront of Otiel and Derek and I was blown away by the entire sound generating from the 7 guys on the stage that I don't really recall how great this solo was. Geeeeeez !

I went back and watched again on Moogis. But I thought we were talking about Dreams, and when he didn't put the slide away for the last of his solo I thought all you guys were just crazy talkin' here. Then I reread the thread and went back to Moogis to watch Whipping Post. Yep, it was an incredible performance. Thanks for bringing attention to it.

Legendary - one of the best. He really had something to say with those notes and he said it!
