I don't get it and why would the band publish this
if they are not sure? If this is a contractual issue,
and I assume(which is dangerous to do, I know)
it is, why post it until the details are worked out?
It confused me, which is easy to
do, and interested me as well. Is the band trying to
get feedback from the fans?

Not to mention, as I have, these two bands
would draw two entirely different crowds to an
ABB show.
I really think the drawing power of each is actually
about equal? I prefer Panic but my wife prefers
Doobies(as in the Bros.) A house divided, or
we live in a two story house!!

I am in favor of Widespread Doobies!

I thought that was a little odd too. Given the choice though, more notice of dates is always better.

Growing up a "New Peach Head", I've also grown up during the whole "WSP Scene". I totally agree that The Doobs and WSP will draw to VERY different crowds. It seems that the younger crowds, like myself, who follow ABB and people such as the Doobs are in it for the music. On the other hand, I feel as though most "Panic Heads" are there for the drugs and the "scene". I've had some great times at all of these guys shows, but will definately have to say that I'm not too excited about going to an ABB show and it being the Panic scene. Just an honest opinion. I love WSP, the Boobs, and ABB's music, but atomosphere can make or break a great show!

Yeah - How far is Heavan, or whatever the title, took off, and I guess a better offer popped up too.

I can't remember - but did the dTb end up opening instead?

I really hope its Panic

That means we get to see Jimmy back with the Brothers...........as well as Warren and Derek out w/ Panic, which is always a treat......derek on maggot brain...yea

But I really wonder who plays where....if its the doobies, i see the allmans closing....
However, Panic draws more people and is a little more chaotic energy (widespread panic) I could actually seem them playing last...doesn't matter to me....

just some food for thought

Hoping it's Panic but don't have problems with the posting of the either/or stuff. Would imagine that like others have said, scheduling is part of the issue. I guess if you are attempting to see an ABB show it really doesn't matter who might co-bill as long as you get your ABB fix.

Here's another vote for WSP.

Personally, I just think they're an overall better match with the ABB than the Doobies. The crossover potential for guests sitting in and jamming with both bands is very appealing. Also, I disagree with some of the comments on Panic Heads just showing up for the scene and such. Some folks were saying similar things the past two summers when Ratdog shared the bill with the ABB, but I mostly heard nothing but good things after the shows. There's always a few nutjobs in every bunch, but I think it'll be a good crowd and all will have a good time if the WSP rumors pan out.

If the ABB is playing with the Doobies instead, I'd probably just hang in the parking lot. I think they'd draw a similar crowd to the one that we had in Hartford a few years ago when the Brothers played a double bill with Tom Petty. Most of the TP fans sat in their seats and complained about the ABB fans who wanted to dance during the Brothers set. It was very lame. TP should've gone on first, then left the rest of us to our good time.

I guess must be an "old school" kind of guy, but I do like the idea of the Doobies and the ABB on the same bill. A lot of you "jambanders" might be surprised just how good and how much musical depth the Doobies actually have, especially since they left the Michael McDonald sh*t behind them. You know when the Doobies got together the two bands that most influences them were Moby Grape and the Allmans. Btw, I would love for the Doobies to come out and do some "classic" Moby Grape songs. Damn, that it would be killer.

The Doobies have 3 original members, Tom Johnston, Patrick Simmons and Michael Hossack (he joined up after their first album.) Tom and Pat have sung and written all of their hits, except for the McDoanald era when Tom had left (off and on at first) due to health reasons.

Which isn't bad considering that on the Doobie's first album they were a four piece band. Btw, one must also consider the John McFee has been with the band since the mid to late '70s, replacing Jeff "Skunk" Baxter. McFee, is probably one of the best and most versital (sp) musicians I've every seen. Plays guitar, slide, dobro, pedal steel and fiddle, all very well. Pretty much if it's got strings, he'll make it sound good. Also, they got a sax player, Marc Russo, who they used to play with the jazz group, the Yellowjackets. and he's "killer". Anybody liking Ron Holloway will also like Marc. the guy is that good. One of my favorite moments in a Doobie concert is when John and Marc play the pedal steel and sax in harmony when doing "South City Midnight Lady". About the only other band that I remember that would mix pedal steel and sax together was the orginal Marshall Tucker Band. Toy on pedel steel, and Jerry on sax could make it sound pretty.

If you want a real treat, listen to some of the '70s Doobie albums on a pair of headphones. They were exceptionally well-produced, with lots of great acoustic guitar in layers that is very tastefully done. They may see a bit "pop" for some, but they can kick with the best of them. They are not strong on improvisation, but long on chops.

My two cents .....

I will vote for The Doobie Brothers for the south leg of the tour. One of my favorite bands back in the 70s and I have listened to them non-stop since then. They have always been in my top 5 favorites in music. And besides, the panic crowd would eat up the tickets and from the few Panic shows I have been too, the crowd is a lot different than the ABB crowd.

And they only need to play two songs for me.....

"South City Midnight Lady" and "White Sun"....

I've seen the Doobie Bros twice since Tom Johnston came back and once with a lineup fairly close to the current one (Keith Knudsen, RIP, was with them the last time I saw them), thought they were great...I was MORE than impressed with whoever their FOH sound tech is/was...he had 'em sounding like I was listening to a crisp, clear, high end home theatre system...vocals nice & clear, the mix of instruments was just great.

Oh, and both times I saw them, they were the opening act. (first time for Spirit, second time for Lynyrd Skynyrd).

I think the only OTHER band I'd want to have open for the ABB would be Little Feat...and in a perfect world, in my dream concert, I would love to have a bill of:

The Doobie Bros
Little Feat
ABB

Outdoors...concert starts at 3 pm, lasting until midnight. Doobie Bros play an hour, Little Feat plays for 3 hrs, ABB plays rest of the night.
