Well, last weekend I sat in the front row of the lower balcony....seat 8, seat 104, and seat 17.

Except for the one in the middle - the sound was not all that great.
I know my ears are shot - but with the way the speakers are directed and placed, it was just too loud.
Loud is okay, but no to the point where it makes it impossible to pick out individual instrumnets or be able to hear the solos clearly.

Second set of Saturday night, I actually went up to the center of the upper balcony and things were way better.

Not complaining....mostly wondering if anyone else had the same sort of lower balcony souind issue .....before I go see an audiologist for hearing aids....

I agree and nice to finally meet you. I was also lower balcony B and my ears are still ringing. Way too loud and some of Warrens solos were distorted

I agree. I sat lower balc, row A on the left, on the 21st. It was very loud and at times in audible. Sonically, it was hard to pick out the different instruments, particularity the high range. When I cupped my ears the sound got a lot better. The rest of my shows were spent on the floor where the sound is much, much better. I am not old and I love it loud, but the high end was peiceing at times.

I sat Loge on 14th, Lower balcony 19th and orchestra on 26th...

By far the Balcony was the loudest.... quite loud at that, to the point where my dog (if I had one) might have deciphered better. It was in spots of course.

That said, it was better than the Orchestra sound.....which I thought was not loud enough.

wow excellent post guys, i was in lower balcony for 2 shows and on the 21st, i actually thought something was wrong with sound system, particularly when Susan T was playing. I wear ear plugs full time at all shows and after that show, my ears were still ringing. I figured there were so manypeople on stage that night-juke horns etc. that is was just louder than all shows.

on the 26th, my earplugs were fine but my friend who went with me complained about his ears after the show for 2 days.

other shows on the 13th and 19th, i was in the loge and it was not so loud. the 13th was also with the jukes. so this post about lower balcony makes sense

I sat in the orchestra for the first time at the Beacon this run- I don't think I will ever sit in the balcony again. The sound at the floor level- I was in row G, dead center- was perfect. Up in the balcony it is definitely louder but nowhere near as clear.

I always wear earplugs... not only to save my hearing and reduce the ringing in my ears but 90% of the time IT SOUNDS BETTER. There are a few instances when it does not sound better.

We were in upperbalcony almost at the back and on first row on lower balcony (two diff. shows of course!). The sound was very bad on high tones i agree. I found the sound to be the same on upper balcony or lower. We both cupped our ears in between sets. were'nt wearing earplugs - which i most likely will if we're up there again
It could be that the speakers were pointing directly towards our seats - in a way.... not sure. Still have my ears intact though *lol*

Agreed, Heidi we were in the same seats Friday that you had Sat. and the volume especially on the high end was a little much. A friend that was there the previous weekend on row A anded comment to me how loud it seemed. I was in row g for Sat. and the sound seemed more even.

I was center loge on the 12th and the sound was absolutely stellar!!! I would take center loge seats at the Beacon for every show over any other seats in the house including front row center.

Opening night, first set in the loge was unbearable. At halftime and during the second set the crew was up their with analyzers and it got better. I saw them on several other nights making adjustments, and I thought the sound was much improved later in the run. 3/26 was as good as I've ever heard the Beacon sound.

Another reason I love Moogis! Being able to control the sound was great. I also loved that they managed to keep the crowd noise very low. One of the times I was at the Beacon was the year Gregg would start the second half with a solo on the baby grand, and the crowd noise was high and to me, very insulting to the artist.

Unless I could be right up front in the orch, these are the seats I prefer also.

I was BB in Orch on the 28th (got Eileen1 with me too) and my ears were not as bad as lower balc.

yeah, I sat in the upper balcony row "F" and found it hard to discern the instruments and enjoy the solos as well. The guitars all just sounded too metallic and tinny or something. I mean, it was exciting to be there and feel the energy and I did enjoy the show, but after being spoiled by Moogis for two weeks prior, the sound was disappointing. It was loud, but I could have been OK with that if it had not been so distorted.

I would also say the the loge, front and center, is the best area in the house.

I was row A of the lower balcony on 3/26. Bass was very loud and giutars a bit drowned out by bass and drums.

Geting a couple varying opinions here.

it's all in the past anyway!

Might be some nights were mixed differently than others, and I found that the sound right in the middle of the Row A lower balcony was loud, but clear.
When I was more to the left and to the right, it got too loud for clarity.

I'm looking at getting some high fidelity ear plugs....about 40 years and hundereds and hundereds of concerts too late though....

The first night 2nd row upper balcony, sound was too loud, solo's got muddy, not painfully loud, but loud enough to make it difficult to distinguish instruments and the delicacy of the individual notes of solos got lost, could not distingush words during the stage announcements. Not as bad as it sounds, and I'd buy those seats again in a heartbeat.

3/17 I sat in lower upper balconey (ha) dead center and the sound was a B. Warren too loud, Gregg too low.

Where were the tapers (I am hoping and figuring there were tapers) set up? I've seen them in the front of the loge and front of lobalc in the past.

Saw them in the front of the loge on 3/27 and 3/28.

Right next to the soundboard- lots of them ,including JoeBeacon whose tapes are available in TRADES- he taped only 14 of the 15 shows.

The Beacon shows that I've gotten copies of so far sound pretty good, better most from previous years.

I was wondering if the renovation had something to do with that
