Why not bust out the acoustics? It really did not come off the way it should have for me. This is nitpicking b/c I still enjoyed the heck out of it.... but why not? It did not make sense to me.

Anyone else?

Sounds like a good idea. They have been playing it different almost every time.

I'd love to see one on 6-string and one on 12-string. I am not sure if the original is just 6-stings but I'd love to hear a lush acoustic arrangement.

I think they played it this way to open it up to the Blue Sky jam. They also don't wasted any time switching instruments to play the next song, not to say that I don't think it would be way cool for them to bust out an acoustic Blue Sky jam! Or go in to an acoustic set

I agree...this song just doesn't have that same beautiful feel with the electrics

So far the version I have liked most is the one with just Warren and Derek.

i agree, accoustic would be awesome, and would sound much better. warrens tone kills it (and i love his tone on everything else). derek can make his sg sound close to an accoustic, but still just a bit off.

i also agree that the bass only version which i have seen a few times live after jumuba before going back into the jam, is great too.

I agree- i enjoyed the opening night version (but after hearing it a few times and subsquent shows, i appreciated the 3/23 full band version that went into Blue Sky)

Little Martha is a beautiful little piece of music history. I think it represents the true heart of its author, in all of its reincarnations. I've often wondered how this would sound arranged for the piano...

I think they went with electric Little Martha based on how loud the Beacon audience is.

I don't think it translates very well to one or two electric guitar. The main melody comes through okay, but all the counterpoint and harmonics are lost.

Alright this was my first response and then I said well, I liked it with just Derek and Warren and then which night was better...

But, aah, I like them all AND Moogis for being able to hear them all.

Actually I was suprised the electrics fit so well. I thought it was a nice take on a classic, and to my ear the harmonics that were touched off sounded good in such a large space.

I don't see any problem in discussing songs and what we might like about them, or where we think a particular tune could be improved.

No one is being mean-spirited here.

Oteil's all-bass opener has been my favorite so far. What was that, 3/20?
