For the first set I'd be alright with them playing the entire 1st album in order w/ a few of the old early favorites tossed in for good measure.

I think it'd be mighty fine to end a first set with Whipping Post....

i second that.. id even be happy with both of the 1st two albums (ie beginnings). either way, i think thats going to be an incedible night. I think im looking forward to the 26th more than any of the other nights becasue i have a feeling its just going to be pure magic (and im not talking about dickey rumors)

If dickey is showing up like the rumors are saying there would have to be a little blue sky

I think the 1st set should be the 1st album, the 2nd set should be the 2nd album with the encore being Mountain Jam.

When Butch said "no special guests" for the 26th, unfortunately I believe that means Dickey as well.

Most of the rumors including the guest list that has been accurate so far have Dickey there on the 23rd.

I hope not... copying the album has been done over and over by a lot of bands, and in performance it's not as interesting as it sounds. It takes some of the drama out of the show, too. The ABB still plays all the songs from the first album and all but one of the songs from the second album (it's been a while since they did Please Call Home, but that one never really worked live, to my ears), so it wouldn't be that special either. The Fillmore album was a special thing, but the songs on those first two albums have been surpassed by live versions over and over.

Nah. It's a song that belongs at the end of a second set or as an encore. I saw the one show where they opened with Whipping Post- worth a try once, but they discovered that's not where the song should be.

Speaking of Jack Pearson (GPT's thread), your requests remind me of the 8/13/05 Chicago show when Jackie P sat in for Warren. Very retro setlist that night for what turned out to be one of my favorite shows. Besides Franklins Tower, it was all early ABB tunes. Great show.

I agree. I LOVED this show. I still listen to it. When I got there and they started playing and it was Jack instead of Warren I freaked. I love Warren, but seeing Jack at any given moment is an incredible treat. I was so happy... Great show.

I agree with Marley. They did "Whipping Post" as a first set closer in June of 2002 in Chicago. It was really cool, but it's hard to follow that song. Even after a setbreak.

I also agree that whatever they should do on the 26th it should be mixed up, random and special... In some ways instead of just playing early music, I think they should try to throw a little in from ALL eras of the band make it a full 40 year retrospective.

I think Warren makes up the set list most nights. On the 26th, it should be the original 3 playing whatever the hell they feel like playing and we should sit back and be amazed as usual.

I had a similar response when I got to the show, and Warren was not playing. The reason for me was that we brought along an old friend of 35 years who was a huge Duane era fan, but really hadn’t followed the ABB in recent years. I was looking forward to him seeing Warren and Derek play together, and hearing some of the variety of songs they were playing like Layla and others. But he basically saw a true ABB show and didn’t think a thing of it set list wise. His first question after the show- “when did the Allman Brothers start playing Dead tunes”? I busted out laughing. I have since gotten him up to speed.

THAT SETLIST WAS NOT UPDATED BY THE ORIGINAL POSTER; HE HAS NO DICKEY KNOWLEDGE

I would think that without Dickey they will play only from the fist 4 recordings - only things that Duane played on.

AND NO F**N SHERYL CROW MUSIC

If Betts is there - and the signs are that if he's coming, it probably won't be the 26th - I guess the odds are pretty good. Even though they haven't played the song in nine years I think I've heard it enough times.

By jove I think I've got it.

Don't think that will happen, but I imagine we are in for a real hard driving set with a blues based and jam based concert. Re: guests still would think Doucette and Dickey would be the only ones even considered into the house that night (OK - maybe Chuch L) since they are the only ones going back that far. Any Dickey speculation is just that. The original list has been right re: guests, but whomever claims it is updated is not the person who posted it originally. All I know is if Dickie isn't there the 23 or 24 the buzz on the 26 will be unreal.

I'll be happy with whatever they play and whoever might show up (if anyone).

While Butch said there will be no special quests, would musicians like Chuck, Jimmy, Jack, and yes, even Dickey be considered guests or members of the band?

If no one shows up and it's just the current line up, no matter. What ever they play will most likely kick A**!!!!!!!!

I'll be shocked if I walk out of there disappointed.

How about a little Please Call home win lose or Draw or Outskirts of town.
Please call home used to be played pretty normally. The other two i have yet to hear in the 30 brothers shows i have ever been to.

Does anyone recall what the song is that they first played that night? That will be the opener, i think, almost certainly. Think someone posted here that it was Trouble No More or One Way Out.

Only other option is Little Martha (Wouldn;t the place go nuts if there were 3 guitars?)

Butch on his facebook was talking to Gary Rossington. Freebird was originally written for Duane and what better way to pay tribute on the 40th anniversary.

No, it wasn't. It was sometimes dedicated to him at Skynyrd shows, but oh man, words cannot express how much I don't want to hear this one.

I like the idea of the 40th as a no guest show, actually, although most of the guests to this point, and the ones to come, I'm sure, have been cool. I'm hoping all different periods of ABB history are well-represented, including stuff from the beginning (usually no problem there), a few post-Duane songs, one or two of the best songs from the '90s, and the Hittin' the Note and newer stuff, too. And maybe one new song or cover, like Dark End of the Street, which Gregg has been doing live for a while now.
