Run along, nynola. You obviously have no clue as to how much Moogis is being enjoyed by many people (none of whom have had any complaints about it's cost). Don't know what your implication is here ... that this band should spend bundles of cash to provide free live music links for who ... 'fans' such as yourself? How entitled you must think yourself. Is there some other band who you are suggesting does any such thing?

Works out to $8.33 per live show stream (ok, only 9 shows left in this run so call it $13.88 per live show stream if you buy in today), plus you get access to all of it on demand for 6 months, plus access to an archive going as far back as 2001 of 15-20 other ABB live video performances and dozens of audio-only ABB live performances.

But you already knew that before you decided to come on here and slam it (and by extension everyone who has bought it) as "lame", right? Yeah, right.

It WOULD be lame if it was $125 for one show, but like gondicar says, it's for live webcasts of the remaining shows and then rebroadcasts of all Beacon shows, plus other archived shows, audio and video. It's a great deal as far as I'm concerned.

excellent point! thats not bad per cast.

it is totally worth it. I bought it half way through the show on saturday. you can watch it for the next 6 mos, and you can always catch stuff you missed. I am listening to the audio from last night while i work right now.

also, as i put it in a thread last night:

plus look at it this way, by buying moogis, youre supporting the band and butch's vision... the more that people support this, the better the chance of it being a success (they probably are not going to break even on it at this point). but if they can break even or make it a success, it will grow and will have the potential to bring more great things, as well as more shows in the future. wannee? the summer tour? who knows. its sucess and future depends on us supporting it though.

I missed the first two nights and could not take it anymore. This was the easiest $125 I have shelled out. It's been worth it for the two shows I have watched already and the sharing of enjoyment with the others in this forum every night there is a show.

See you all here tonight at 8:20.

Less than $7.00 a night for 15 show run, sitting with friends at home, smoke 'em if you got 'em. No wait at the bathroom. Unlimited on demand until the end of Sept. Yeah, really sucks. Need to read more of the threads here. I got in for $100 before the Feb 1 increase. Who knows we may get more Allman Brothers Band events as the tour begins. Sounds expensive until you break it down. I will be in the best seat in the house at 8 pm tonight. Where is Dave Mason at today?

Hey guys.
Listen, I didn't know that I would start a firestorm here. I was posting on some un-researched tip. That is my fault. It is a pretty good idea to give us all of the shows. So if you guys could let up on me and take it easy, that'd be better for everyone. I never post on sites and will not post until i do better research. But in my defense, i have caught entire shows live on the web.

The Woodstk669 post was the one that was the least venemous and actually taught me something.

Listen, I live in Italy. Two years ago I saw two shows at the Beacon. this year I couldn't come to nyc. So with Moogis I can see ALL the shows (now I am looking at the march 16 first set), paying a reasonable fee and for how many times I want to see them.
Can I ask for more? For all of us european fans Moogis is simply fantastic. Thanks to Buck for the idea.

What the eff did you expect with this kind of sarcastic and name-calling 1st post? You basically insulted this entire community, seemingly on purpose, and I don't feel bad about my response in the least...you got what you gave in this case...going forward I would suggest you think before you post...do that and I think you'll get the benefit of the doubt and find this to be a very inclusive community (just stay out of the Whipping Post forum unless you have very thick skin). Sheesh.

no problem man, just remember we arent haters, most of us are pacefists (ok queue the lebowski quotes ).

some fests like bonnaroo can be caught streaming on the web, but picture quality is poor, and you catch only bits and pieces, and it jumps around. this is super high quality stuff here, and its up close and intimate. other concerts are filmed from far away (most i have seen at least).

my theory is support those who support us. i dont see this as a money making venture for the band.. sure there is some capitalism involved, there always is. but i think the band sees this as a way to bring a community together to share the shows etc. sure it is a way for more income, but i bet the income is not that great, especially starting out. if anything they are taking a huge hit on this. but i dont think this is a purely greed based venture (although it is a business venture all the same). its not like they are charging 10 bucks for a bottle of water at a show.

fwiw, there are a few things on the moogis faq's that speak volumes:

Who's your Daddy?
Moogis is the brainchild of Butch Trucks, percussionist and founding member of the Allman Brothers Band.

What's up with the shark?
Moogis gives props to the Frilled Shark because until recently its gestation period was by far the longest on the planet – 3.5 years. Then Moogis came along and blew her out of the water, poor thing. Having taken 5 years from being a twinkle in Butch’s eye to 'net birth, Moogis now boasts the mother of all gestation periods.

Where did the name Moogis come from?
When Butch's children were young they pronounced music as "moogis". We know, we know, awwwww, for cute.

that kind of shows a little more insite into the passion that brought this about.

No hating for me. I will almost certainly sign up, probably this week. I do have several questions/suggestions about the service; its pricing, and the website itself. I might as well high-jack this thread and offer them for comment and (hopefully) some answers from those in the know.

1. The pricing seems a bit "rigid". I wonder if Butch considered "a la carte" pricing, for those who might want to purchase one show, or anything less than the full boat?

2. Why does the right to access end after 6 months? What rights (if any) does the membership provide after that date? The right to new shows? A discount on new shows? Anything?

3. Related to 2 above, how will this investment relate to the prospects for a permanent (DVD) video of the shows? Ideally, I would like to own the video from the shows permanently. Should I be "gun shy" about spending this money if there is a prospect for a DVD to come out, which might get me where I need to be?

4. Is none of this information available on the website, or did I just miss it? It seems difficult to me to determine exactly what you are buying from what I can see on the site.

My $.02...

1. Not sure if he considered it or not, but I suggested that in another thread. I do think it could be done in such a way as to make more money off it overall, but give people some options. In any case, it is what it is for now.

2. & 3. I think those are both unknowns at this point. All of the other live streaming sites I have checked out (none with the quality of moogis) have expirations of varying lengths, most less than 6 months. It may be that this is so new they wanted to make it long enough to get people to feel good about signing up, but also given them and "out" in order to assess and regroup based on how it is going. Of course they could always "bonus" people another 6 months or whatever, but the next phase of moogis remains to be seen as far as I know.

4. I don't think any of the specific answers to these specific questions are on the site, because like I'm not even sure Butch knows the answers yet...he probably has a vision of what he'd like to see happen, but it probably depends on how things play out over the next few weeks/months.

Sorry I know that's not much help, maybe other have more info they can share.

I was curious about #3 as well. It seems like a little discount on a DVD package if it ever became available would be nice.

Sometimes in life you just have to make a leap of faith. Whether or not to buy Moogis is, IMHO, one of those times. If you have so many "what's in it for me" questions, it might not be for you. For me, its been the best $100 (I got in early) I've spent in awhile and I'm going to take it for what it is and I'm not going to sweat the small stuff.

Just my .02.
