It's always great seeing a musician sit in with the Allmans and more or less see/hear Derek for the first time and watch them in shock....Bonnie Bramlett tonight.

I thought John Hammond gave them both that same look after seeing, 1st, Warren's slide solo...and then Derek's - it was the old 'holy sh!t am I lucky to see this from 4 ft away?!'

I still feel that way toward Derek, even though I've seen him at least 200 times. He is an excellent guitarist, creative, connected, and real. I have been very happy to see so much attention going his way this past year or so. He deserves it all.

Buddy Guy gave the same look on Thursday - he dueled with Warren, and then Derek started playing and all he could do is shake his head and smile....

These looks of amazement and smiles by those sitting in have been wonderful to watch. I thought these reactions last night where especially poignant with John Hammond and Bonnie who both jammed with Duane.

Always great when you turn a friend on to his playing for the first time also. Had a few folks over this past Saturday, that never even heard of him before. Needless to say, they're converts.

I remember sonmebody posting something like this awhile back ; When you see the ABB , for most of the show you'll look like this and sometimes Derek or Warren will make you go like this and at the end of the show you'll leave looking like this

No worries here , but someone else had come up with that previously , so I can't claim credit. It is good though , that's probably why I remembered it.

I bet some of the reactions have to do with memories of Duane. Some knew him, played with him. Again hearing music they thought was forever gone.

not starting anything here but i am missing something, having seen them both Duane and Derek i see no resemblence at all in thier playing, tone, or style, help me out what am i missing duane played with a pick on his non slide solos very clean and very melodic, derek has a new world feel to alot of his solos (almost sitar soundingat times) fast lots of slide and really interesting phrasing but they sound nothing alike to me...

Those two are amazing. I do not think there has been a better duo.

Maybe it's the "Holy sh*t, is that even possible on guitar esp. from such a young guy" factor more so than similarities in sound. Just a guess.

I'm wondering what Randy Brecker's reaction was to the Dreams solo Derek took immediately after his (Brecker's).

Derek teased 'Resolution' from A Love Supreme the other night with one of those heavies on stage - can't remember the song.

Sweet.

(think it was during Liz Reed)

Warren's playing is a lot more like Duane's than Derek's, in my opinion, but I still love to hear Derek play.

Derek is his own man, just like Duane was. Comparisons are fun, but don't mean anything.

i agree. derek is amazing though, and takes it to another world. I love derek, but i think sometimes people forget about warren, and how brilliant he is. i remember seeing warren at my 1st show in 95 and just being floored.. never heard anything like it. been a big ABB and mule fan since.

saw derek in 99? when ever it was that he jumped on w/ Dickey still in the game. That left me speachless. never heard anything with natural tone like that, and his skills were just above and beyond anything i had ever heard. his influences just oooze out. you can tell he just takes it all in and like a mina bird, spits everything he has ever heard or absorbed back out through his axe. just incredible.

Very true...if you're looking for that "Southern Rock" slide style, Warren is definitely the man. But if you're looking for something that you'll never hear anyone else do anywhere on earth...Derek is your man.
