I read somewhere that Aretha Franklin might be a guest. Like the Queen, don't get me wrong, but I'm just thinking... maybe she might not make my Dream Guest.

She is going to be at BB Kings on Sunday the 3/22 and so I'm thinking... maybe she would show up...

If I can find the article that mentioned her being a guest, I'll post the link.

That said, what say you all?

Is there a place for the Queen of Soul with the ABB?

If so, what would she sing? What could she sing? What would you like her to sing?

It might be fun if she came out and did one song: The Weight.

The show at BB's is the Harlem Gospel Choir singing Aretha's music. I see no indication she will be there.

That said, if she were to show up, she would surely sing "The Weight." The version she did with Duane on guitar is fantastic.

Butch said something in an interview about her probably not remembering who "that white kid" was on the Weight. Gave me the impression she isn't going to be there.

Are you kidding me? If Gregg laid down some hammond/leslie and the band played anything with a gospel/jazz feel...Aretha would blow the roof off. Southern roots baby. Just remember that if Aretha makes it there. Plus.. Aretha?.. pass up a Diva moment?...

Tru dat.

I didn't know she covered The Weight. Interesting to hear that, but some gospel w/ the leslie, that DOES sound kind of inviting...

I read that she was invited but wanted too much money ... headliner fees for a guest spot ... and so the band passed ...

If Aretha can't make it, why not invite Jerry Jehmont (sp?)? He was the bassist on those sessions and has toured recently with Gregg's band.

Wasn't he in King Curtis' band, too?

Jerry Jemmott, I mean. I think I remember him being introduced during a particularly tasty soul stew.

kind of like she backed out on the New Orleans Jazz Fest this year

the last couple times I've seen her sing, it hasn't been overly impressive

Not at all interested in Aretha-saw her last year at Radio City-she gave a lackluster performance, was probably on stage singing for about 45 minutes, then brought he son out for some "religious rap". Way too full of herself (She looked like a stuffed sausage in the dress she had on) and is really not a good fit with the Brothers-I hope she was not invited....

LMAO oogie!!!

I read somewhere that Aretha should not be expected to show. I love Aretha but she does have a very diva attitude now-a-days and I don't see her being a good fit personality wise with the Bros.

can't believe noone's mentions "Soul Serenade". she does a killer version.
anyone who doesn't think she'd bring the house down is sorely mistaken IMO.

but I believe the diva thing, and the too much money, so don't hold out
too much hope.
