Im watching the directors cut now on VH1 classic, totally cool. Whos the drummer for Santana? Hes funny and a great drummer....and the story is they were all taking something, so to play that Soul Sacrafice like they did was amazing.

the story was the Carlos dropped acid and doesn't remember anything they played before soul sacrifice.

He was just coming out of it for that song.

Carlos wasn't too much older than 20 at Woodstock himself. I think Shrieve was older than 16 but not by much. Schon, on the other hand was around 16 ... a band of babies (and look at the music they made that day - amazing!)

Didn't say he was - was just commenting about his age. He didn't join until Santana 3.

You are correct. But he was a youngster when he started playing with Carlos.

James Mingo Lewis was hired at the last minute, plucked from the audience as a replacement during a concert in New York City.

I was at the show he first played. My friend who I went with used to play Conga with JML. Imagine how pale he became when he realized he missed out by a night the right to be in Santana

That was the rumor, when Schon was 15. I don't know if it was ever substantiated....I don't think he would have been a good fit. He's not a blues player.
