The Band:

Incredible from the start. That Little Martha was unexpected and completely inspiring. The perfect way to start this run. They really came out ready, highlights for me were the new instrumental, great Mountain Jam (never heard one like this), Stormy Monday, the Taj songs, man, it was all a huge highlight. Levon's voice was a little rough, but you could feel the soul coming off of him. I've been to 2 of his Midnight Rambles in Woodstock, and his voice is usually much stronger than it was last night. My guess is he probably sang himself out from his own little Beacon run last week, plus at his Rambles, it usually takes him 3-4 songs to really get going. With that said, musically, it really couldn't have been much better.

To Moogis:

First, let me say thank you Butch, Moogis is truly an inspired idea, and it was great to see it come to fruition.

I was very impressed with the video, especially stretched out on my big screen. I did not have any freezes or glitches.

My only complaint is with the sound mix. The sound itself was very impressive. Very clear and detailed. The mix was definitely off at times. When someone was soloing or singing, they were cranked up in the mix, which is perfect, the problem was at the same time everyone else was lowered in the mix. This really limits some of the you are there feeling. As the soloist builds up, the band usually increases in volume with the soloist, and you get awash in great sound. This was very limited since the rest of the band was turned down in the mix, especially the bass and drums. They were quite low in the mix all night. I have a very good subwoofer in my surround setup that will emphasize any bass that is there. It was very limited with both drums and Oteil throughout the show. Just to make sure I wasn't crazy, I watched some of the Piedmont Park show as setbreak, to do more of an apples to apples comparison, and there was definitely more bass in the mix. I could feel my sub kicking it out.

It definitely sounded that there was a seperate mix for the interenet, and we were not getting Slim's house mix. Maybe there are technical reasons for this, but if possible, I would use the house mix. We would not have any of these mix issues, especially with the lower end. In the grand scheme, I am way impressed with how this all came out, this is a very small problem, which I bet can easily be fixed.

As I stated first, many thanks for allowing me to take part in an incredible first night of an incredible run. I about fell out of my chair when Taj came running on stage for his verse in The Weight. The Little Martha was incredible and unexpected. I look forward to wathcing 12 more shows live (going to the 20th and 21st ). Keep it coming Butch. Moogis needs to be around for a long, long time!

I agree on the sound mix. The guitars and vocals were way up while the drums and bass were way down. This made the sound very flat. I sure hope this will be improved tonight.

I agree with the mix issues. Derek was way too loud throughout the show. Warren was barely audible at times. Hopefully they'll fix it when they archive it. Also, I hope they fix it for tonight's show! I was surprised they didn't fix it during the broadcast. It thought maybe they weren't doing any quality control by actually watching the webcast.

I was at the show and found Warren too low. If you had sound issues, you probably would have said the same things if you'd been sitting in the Beacon. Sound could have been better tweaked last night, I thought

That would explain it. First night, I'm sure they were working some bugs out still.

The amps were definitely too hot at the start of the show, there was sound crew in the loge checking it out. I noticed some adjustments in the second set. I wonder if the renovations had any impact on the sound check and setup?

Below is Butch's reply from the Moogis forum. I had no doubt it would be fixed tonight. This band really never ceases to amaze me. They are great on so many levels beyond music. Butch, your passion and dedication to this has been incredible. I can only say thanks from the bottom of my heart for bringing something like this to the fans. I've got 12 more incredible nights to look forward to watching and listening (the other two I get to experience in person=totaly, unbelievably incredible)! )

Butch's Reply on the sound mix:

Thanks for the accolades everyone. I watched the show this morning and, ya know, it was as good as I thought it was. I agree that the mix was a bit off. I kind of expected it. The audio mixer is under the stage and the amount of bass and drums he is getting from the stage is really loud. He overcompensated. Saying that I still enjoyed the **** out of watching and hearing it from this new perspective. Trust me, the mix will be a lot closer tonight. May take a few shows to get it 100%, but I'm proud as hell with the first shot.

Same here, I have DSL which is not really high speed. Worked like a charm at 564.
