Just got back from an amazing first show. I just wanted to give my 2 cents on the security at the Beacon. There were many more security guys around this time than in past years. The pat down as you entered the theater was very thorough than before, so be careful. In the loge there was a security guard on the top of each aisle mostly during the first set. There was very little smoking gong on at this time. In the second set, it was not as prevelant so a few people were able to light up without a hassle. I guess just use your best judgement for the rest of the run.

I just got back from the show... which was PHENOMENAL and moving and it's hard to imagine a better opening night for this 40th anniversary.

on the security, I would say it was worse than pre-Dolan Beacon days, but much mellower than the 2007 run, the first after Dolan. I spent the whole night in the aisle with no problems.

Worse than TSA; I basically got a body frisk at the door. That much contact usually costs me a couple of drinks.

Speaking of Dolan; he had part of the front row, center loge blocked off for him. Came in for the opening, left halfway through the first set, and never came back. Goon squad kept those prime seats empty throughout the show. Hope he got his 16Mil worth?

Even a little bit of smoking gong is quite amazing. Or was that a Freudian slip?

Security emptied out half our row last night. Bunch of kids just being stupid with a big bag of reefer and didn't look old enough to be drinking beers. For the more experienced, there was plenty of ' keeping it low ' smoking going on up front

I'm not a big girl and easily get lost in a crowd. The guy at the door was patting down the males in our crew and I was last in line .. heh I put my arms up but he wouldnt touch me. I heard one of the guys say after the pat down "He was better than my wife" and the security guy yelled "I heard that" and everyone laughed

Do they only do this to the Allman crowd or does the Thomas & Friends Live kids get patted down too?

Yeah, and for RuPaul it's a body cavity search.

I patted myself down before heading out on the back deck at the break. Security was light. The wind was right. It was a great night. You folks be careful............

It was surprisingly quiet outside. One year the ave was back to back squad cars but last night I just saw two cops on teh corner, no big spot lights, not much of a crowd outside because staff kept the line going pretty quick to get in

There was no pat downs last week for van Morrison or for Levon Helm...

Did anyone get busted by security- if so was it just the little rip the ticket in half or the heave-ho? The last thing I want is to get kicked out of this show cause I couldn't help but toke up.

True....getting in there was a pat down - no worse than I have dealt with before at the Nokia or Jones Beach - I learned my lesson after getting a vial full taken from me and thrown out at the Nokia - though the dude let me in and I still had a little stash - last night I just had one rolled and in my sock - they didn't bother checking what the lighter, chapstick and mints I had in my pocket were. I mostly noticed female security inside where we were in the 9th row orchestra - occasionally a big dude would come by - you have to be careful and smart.

I felt the crowd was good but they were allowed to go into the aisles and that made it hard for me to see so I had to move my 173 dollar (w- fees) seat to a place where I could actually see. If people were kept out of the aisles, then I would not have moved because I had a lovely seat. The ABB can ask that security be more aware to keep people out of the aisles. If the seats were 60 dollar GA standing room, I wouldn't have minded, but . . .

(If the jamband community wants to charge top dollar, they need to make sure the experience is top dollar for the majority of consumers, just saying.)

As for smoking, the cigarettes will ruin the place. Pot I don't see as being as harmful but I am willing to forgo it in order not to see the Beacon trashed by cigarettes on the new tens of thousands of dollars in carpets, millions of dollars in paintings and hundreds of thousands of dollars in new seating covers.

Not my money of course though indirectly my 170 something dollar ticket with fees does in fact pay for the place. I mean really, would you just light up and flick your cigarette on your own 300-500 dollar carpet? I don't think so.

F just the cap...I snuck in an entire bottle. Stuck it in my bra. Hey, they don't know if I'm a D cup or an A cup...ha! And it happened to be the correct brand (Dasani), so I was able to walk around with it openly and refill it.

When I was a concertgoing party animal back in my teens and twenties, I never thought I'd see the day I'd have to keep a bottle of WATER low. Jeez.

As for security, here's my two cents:

ENTRY. I was not touched at all. Not even sent over to a female frisker. Also, I had a large tote bag with me and had it wide open so the guard could search if he wanted to. He poked at the top two things he could see (a makeup case and a hat), and dismissed me...and my three airplane bottles of vodka, hehehe.

SMOKING. I was in 2nd row Loge, and boy did the room toke up fast at showtime. Good God. I thought for sure it was contact high time. The smokin' continued for quite a while, but finally seemed to subside toward the end of set 1. Thankfully, no one smoked cigarettes in my immediate vicinity. The tokage started up again in earnest when set 2 began. I didn't really mind. I don't indulge myself at the moment, but I don't mind when others do. It's sweet leaf, ya know? Not offensive like cigarettes *hurl*.

SECURITY/PEOPLE BLOCKING YOUR VIEW. In the Loge, everyone generally sits. I am not a fan of sitting at an ABB show, but I have read enough threads on this board to respect everyone else's wishes and remain seated in a sitting section. As everyone always says, you want to stand and boogie, get an Orchestra seat. We had very little problem with dancers and step-sitters and seat-squisher-in-ers. And we were also allowed to dance at the back top of the Loge along the wall, so long as we didn't block the aisleway. Very cool.

DRUNK AND DISORDERLY. I experienced nothing of the kind last night. No spills, no puking, no bumping. It was all good.

Next show is downstairs for one of the Clapton shows...we'll see if my story remains the same!

Thanks for the reminder. Bought a bottle of water at a ballgame this summer and immediately snatched it out of the vender's slippery hand.

Question is, if they find a bottle cap in the front door frisk, will they confiscate it?
