Exceptional opening night - firing on all cylinders right from the start! I was moved to tears by the Duane "Little Martha" tribute and then lifted up by the strength of DWYNM,NMCTB. The crowd was really giving the band a warm NY welcome and everything felt right.
Taj was a trip - man those were good performances. Anyone who has heard the dTb shred "Leavin Trunk" knows what I mean. Check out Live at GA Theatre if you don't. Great to hear a harmonica back in the mix!!
Levon was spiritual - the whole room was singing along. When Brother Gregory sang his part and nailed it, the grins on stage all around were so genuine it felt like the song just washed over my soul. It was one of those moments where you say to yourself - this is why I come to the Beacon, this is why I listen to this band.
I believe Derek told me that the instrumental didn't even have a working title - it was something they had worked on during the "Allready Free" sessions.
The actress, Glynn Close, was backstage - very sharp looking and intelligent. She immediately "got" Derek. She spoke of his solos as a thing of spiritual art. Like most of our wives, her husband turned her on to the Brothers. They stayed for the whole show - a very cool group of folks with wonderfully witty coments and questions about the band.
If this was opening night - I can't imagine what is to come. This would have been a performance worthy of closing night, and a very respectable one, for most bands.
So glad to hear the great feedback on Moogis! It's it obvious backstage, how much effort they have gone to in order to bring you a good product. It is the way to go if you can't be here.
Hope you guys enjoyed the 40th Anniversary Beacon Programs we handed out. They will be distributed the whole run...about a 1,000 a night.
Can't wait till tomorrow/today to do it all over again!

Thank you my friend. If you have the time and energy, I think I can speak up for most who for whatever reason do not yet have Moogis... Your play by play and reviews of the shows as they happen would be greatly appreciated and looked forward to.
Thanks again JNB,

I was able to get a ticket last-minute and spent the whole night blown away...
Wanted to find you and introduce myself and say howdy, Joe, but I arrived after 8 and wanted to scope out the newly renovated Beacon. Which was beautiful, I have to say... ____________________

Have to admit when Gregg pulled the mike down I crossed my fingers hoping he would nail it and he did! This run will be historic. ____________________ "Please don't confront me with my failures ... I'm aware of them" |

Hey Big V - my pleasure. Time and energy are the key. By the end of the run - sometimes I just don't have either left...
Hey the PeteMan - come on by tomorrow to the lobby and look for the HTN table under the banner of the magazine covers. It has bookends of HTN magazine covers of the band in 1969 at the Bond Monument in Macon and a picture from 2009 in Atlanta at rehearsals. Then we have a Duane cover playing at the Fillmore followed by one of Gregory. The banner, btw, is in front of a wall light that shines perfectly behind Duane - kind of gives him an aura...

Joe, I won't be able to make it tomorrow, I've got tix for 21 and 28, and will probably be there one more time too but not this week... I'll see you on the 21st for sure and right here in HTW-land!

Loving the reviews! Happy for all who were there in person and for those like me who got moogised ... we got ourselves a great opening show! Can't wait for my 3-D version next week but between now and then I know how I'll be spending my evenings! ____________________ "Come on down to the Mermaid Cafe and I will buy you a bottle of wine, and we'll laugh and toast to nothing and smash our empty glasses down..." |

It was an awesome show. These guys are gelling. Gregg sounded great vocally and on keys. Warren and Derek have matured into an incredible guitar duo. Their tones and style of playing mix so well. Oteil??? What can you say. He is one of the best bassist I have ever heard. The ABB's are sounding the best they ever have. Moogis is unbelievable. Thanks Butch. Love the new lights too...
The guests were hittin it too. I wonder how Gregg felt not singing vocals on Statesboro Blues, how often does that happen? That was a cool smile he gave Taj. Levon's songs were so soulful. Tonight is going to be awesome. Guests????
