Good Morning All,
Derek Trucks and Band played Austin, Tx. on Wed. night and we are now eldgible for Federal Disaster Aid! Wow! These boys are not just good, they are over in a zone that very few have ever even touched on much less ever entered. Not a show off in the whole bunch, just great muscians who know and love what they are doing. The two hour show kept you in a place of pinching yourself to make sure that what you just heard was real.
I just really wish that what he does on stage could actually be captured on disc. He is one of the few artist that seems to put what he does out into a different atmosphere and it just cannot be captured and put on disc.
He brought the great Bobby Whitlock up to do "Anyday" as the last song of the set. Here is a guy who wrote most of the Layla album, played with Delaney and Bonnie, played on "All Things Must Pass" a guy that still posses one of the truly great voices in rock -n - roll history, he can play a B-3 like nobody's business, and is really one of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet. The look on Dereks face as Bobby tore into the first verse was worth a million. he could not wipe the smile off of his face, I couldn't either for that matter.
Truly a night to remember. I suspect we are looking at the young man that will carry the torch of Duanes Vision for many years to come. God Bless Derek Trucks!

Just a footnote, I have four really good seats for Friday night the 13th at the beacon. I can't go and I am just sick about it. They are Orchestra seats, row "U". Just want face value. e-mail me at: jrpickren@msn.com, hurry!

And that's exactly what I love about Derek. His deep appreciation for all his musical roots. What a great moment. See any tapers?

Great review, Jpick! Just saw DTB last Friday and was blown away ... again! These guys keep getting better and better! Very cool about Bobby Whitlock - hope he's been invited to do some sit-in at the Beacon this year ... maybe on a night when another Domino is present?

That's the first I've heard of Whitlock playing live with anyone in years. But then, I'm way out in California..............Whitlock lives somewhere in the South, doesn't he?

Wow, Peg! (((Peg))) Exactly what I was going to post! Especially the part about any tapers? I am crazy about Bobby Whitlock, this had to be an incredible show. And to see Derek smile for a long time had to be worth a million also.

He hasn't. I was in Austin a year and half ago and caught his act with Coco at the Saxon Pub. It was a live radio broadcast and when he walked by me after his set I told him he looked and sounded great. He gave me a big smile and gave me a friendly tap on the shoulder.

He did a bunch of Dominos tunes on acosutic with Coco and really sounded great. He looked really happy, too.

Man, Bobby really grew his hair out again. When I saw him it was real short.

La Zona Rosa is real cool place - it is just a converted gas station or auto repair garage...I saw Indigenous there with Doyle Bramhall Sr. (Doyle's dad) and it was tiny. Couldn't hold more than 75 - 100 people. It would be a GREAT place to see Derek.

Man, Austin is THE place to be music - wise...
