That is one heck of a first set! I am going on Sunday. Nothing is like a Hampton show. I saw the Grateful Dead, Jerry, and Phish in that magical building! Good times!

Haven't listened to any Phish for some time now (don't know if I got burnt on them or what ... I just sort of lost interest) but have to admit I gave this a listen and was getting into it ... sounded pretty good.

I've listened to 2 of the 3 shows from this weekend and thought they were alright. Overall, the songs were shorter and more direct.

I used to listen to Phish a ton circa 1994-1997, but feel as though I kinda outgrew their music in the last decade. The goofy lyrics delivered in strained, off-key fashion started to wear thin after awhile. Nothing in this weekend's shows has changed my mind. Today, when I hear Phish, I often think of what one of my friends used to say - "Given Phish's technical abilities on their respective instruments, why don't they search for a vocalist/lyricist of equal caliber?" My friend thought it was arrogant, as well as disrespectfull to their instrumental abilities that they would, at best, wallow in such vocal and lyrical mediocrity.

This sums up my feeling about them perfectly. I dl'd all the weekends shows, and I do like some of thier jams alot - last nights Free > Frankenstein, or the Tweezer jam on an earlier night for example. But I totally agree, its like, sometimes I'm totally digging a song...then Trey opens his mouth.

Holy *** is right!! Out of three friggin shows, they didn't play the one Phish song I actually like. They didn't do Contact. I can say that is the one Phish song I don't dislike. I'm sure there must be others, but I wouldn't know 'em by name. LIke I said before, I do like their jams. It's the lyrics that lose me. Anyway, I uploaded this video special for all the Phish heads.

Enjoy!!

Contact was played for an encore on the 3rd night.

I've noticed, listening to the shows over the last few days, it seems Trey sings the newer numbers with a lot more energy than the old ones. Could be that he's reading lyrics off a prompter for the old ones and that's not helping the cause. Or it could just be that he doesn't care about the songs like he once did.

FWIW I thought Page was singing and playing with more force and confidence than he's shown in over a decade. Page always had a better singing voice than Trey anyway IMO.

I've only listened to the first night so far and it was Page's show. Wouldn't doubt if it was Page's weekend. And that's a good thing. Trey's lost a step. Page hasn't.

Friday sounds good, not great. But pretty damn good for taking 5 years off.
