Mtv hypes up Johnny Cash's "hurt" video and gives a 2 minute recognition to him before the show. He was nominated for like 5 awards, didn't win.. Then for the Lifetime Acheivement Award, Duran Duran takes it. I know MTV is a big corporate pop company and most of the time gives awards to non-talents but, don't hype up Cash, his career, and his nominations if your not going to give him an award. He's done a lot more then Duranx2 ever did. Well, this teaches me a lesson; MTV sucks.

Like MTV or Duran Duran has even been around for a lifetime.. Cash deserves it.

OTF actually is right from the standpoint of MTV. Johnny Cash hasn't done much of anything for MTV; his career was made twenty or thirty years before the network was even around. Duran Duran was one of the first stars for the channel (back when they played music, that is). I don't think the two groups compare at all, but from the MTV angle, it does make sense.

Then why hype up Johnny this late in his career in the first place?

I flipped by it and laughed my ass off.

Male Video of the Year
Nominees
M&M
50 Cent
Justin Timberlake
Some guy I have never heard of
and Johnny Cash

For me it is disrespectful and sad that he is even nominated. I hear Sesame Street "One of these things is not like the others" playing in my head. As if MTV viewers give a damn about Johnny Cash.

Beats me. I guess because it's unusual that he had a hit video (and it does give MTV some credibility) and because he's had such a distinguished career.

They didn't even mention that he's in the hospital. A Get Well Soon would have been nice.. MTV didn't do it's justice in regards to Cash.

MTV gave him one half-ass tribute. I mean, I agree, he deserves honorable mention period. But with him, it just didn't do it's justice.

From the front page of Yahoo!

Apparently, the highlight of the night (MTV Awards) was the make-out session between Madonna and Brittany, and then Madonna and Christina. Anyone remeber when MTV first hit the airwaves? My how thangs do change.

Ever since that teenage duo TaTu were on an awards show this summer with their steamy number (and possible lesbian connection) sexy teenage or older, girls have become the "in" thing on TV..."Wow, girls kissing!". Kind of like on Seinfeld, "...CATFIGHT!!"...a turn on for guys, for sure but music...??I'm a big fan of Johnny Cash but I knew he didn't stand a change against all that lightweight, disposable rap and pop. Johnny Cash is in a class of his own and doesn't need the recognition of MTV, but he did win one award, cinematography i think.

People seem to forget that just before rock and roll began, Johnny Cash and Hank Williams (SR. - none of that Bocephus stuff for me, thank you very much) were about as wild and rebellious as music got. I'd say that they were the equivalent of the Clash in their early years. I might even go out on a limb and say that were it not for Johnny Cash, a whole lot of rock and roll might never have even happened. There's a whole lot of Johnny Cash in artists like Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen and many others. I'll take Johnny Cash over any video artist any day.

The Country Music Awards are a more appropriate plce for a tribute to JC. Hopefully they will give him a good one.

He's nominated for several CMA's and I'm sure he'll be treated well - By the way, I like the name of this topic - I thought we had to say "poo-poo" or something!

At Least Justine Limbercake said that Cash was more deserving than he for the award.

I have all the Rick Rubin produced Johnny Cash records they are all very good.

Nothing Madonna does surprises me. She is the queen of shock.

Peace
John
