I ate breakfast at Big Nick's every day when I was there in '07. Good, friendly and affordable.

Big Nick's is great after the show too. during the Phil Lesh run at the Beacon in 2003, Jimmy Herring and Rob Barraco were there every night, we sat right next to there table on a couple of those nights. they are are two of the nicest people you will ever meet.

I still love Carmine's on Broadway and 90th- you will need the walk back to the Beacon after eating all that excellent Italian food!

I like the diner that is right nearby. Is it called The Beacon Diner? It is right after the Beacon Hotel. They get you in and out nice and quick; they have beer; the food is good diner food. Get your reuben fix. That will be my destination.

The Cosmic Diner 8th and 52nd

"Walking Distance" is relative and NY subway will get you anywhere quick and easy. With so many fabulous places to eat and explore don't limit yourself to the Beacon area.

I'll go for convenience...the Viand, right by the Beacon, is fine for me. There's an all-night diner on up Broadway, about 3 blocks. Plan to kill a little time there after Lefty's show before heading to the airport.

If you like Sushi, on 73rd & Columbus a place called Tenzan. Great place, been going there pre-Beacon for years. If your not into the raw fish thing, there is plenty of cooked stuff and Japanese style food. Great people too. I would suggest going up top or down in the lower level. Fair prices as well. Super clean too.

After two years of turning away practically pitch-fork-wielding mobs of souvlaki-starved customers they didnít have room for, Kefiís Michael Psilakis and Donatella Arpaia have traded up to a bigger space. Aside from 130 more seats, the new Kefi has much to offer that the old Kefi did not: namely a credit-card machine, a reservationist, brunch, lunch, and some kind of ouzo-dispensing contraption. The rustic Greek dinner menu remains intact, with the addition of several new items including a Kefi burger. And the prices remain shockingly low, with appetizers ranging from $5.95 to $9.95, and pastas and entrťes from $9.95 to $16.95. Thereís even a new three-course prix fixe for $16.95. Now, thatís a recession special. ó Rob Patronite and Robin Raisfeld

Note
As good as the pastas and main courses are, itís fun to make a meal out of several meze and sample the ouzo selection along the way.

Ideal Meal
R.P.: Spreads to share, meatball soup, pasta with braised rabbit, or pork souvlaki. R.R.: Warm Feta, crispy cod, walnut cake with walnut ice cream.

Last night we ate Greek food at Nico's at about 75th(?) and Broadway, on the corner within sight of the Beacon. Get there before 6pm eat for $14.99. Lots of food and great service without spending a fortune.
Isabella's is just a few blocks away but very good.
The diner next to the Beacon Hotel is highly recommended by the staff at the Beacon, but I didn't try it.
