Our friend Carter Allen was first to break this today

U2 To Play a Club In Boston!

ZLX broke the news this morning that U2 will play a Boston area club Wednesday night, March 11! Not Gillette Stadium! Not the Garden! A CLUB! Which club? We can't say!

Obviously, this special event is an extremely rare chance to see one of the world's greatest rock bands in an intimate setting and ZLX can get you in!

Listen to win your invite at 10:40am, 1:40pm and 4:40pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday!

Paradise Rock club is very historic Boston club. U2 have played there before. I can't remember what year. Like maybe very early 80's.
Good luck getting in there. Like maybe 2,000 max. U2 in there is going to be 600$ a ticket to start. I saw Mule in there with Woody. Amazing show.
My last band played in the adjacent room at the Paradise last year. Dinasour Jr. was playing that night. I went over to see a little of them. Very loud! So loud I had to plug my ears, which I rarely do. That was a fun night.

They played the Paradise as an opening band in like 80/81. There was 150 people in there and 3/4's left after they finished. They played one other time in a club which was called Metro, then Citi and Avalon which is now House Of Blues. I don't think the Paradise is where they will play this time. I'll bet it's the HOB. Tune in to find out and if you want to hear more of what I just wrote, listen to Carter...

In 91 the only way you could get in to see the ABB playing at Citi was to win on WBCN. Carter was with that station back then and thankfully I won. Dickey was not there though. I forget if that was the time he was in Mass General with a high fever or if it was something else.

They are quite possibly the loudest band around, no joke. J Mascis really cranks up his amps.

I was lucky to catch them on the Joshua Tour at a 12,000 seat arena in Murfreesboro, Tennessee! They were the biggest band in the world at that time playing pretty much just stadiums! One of the best shows I've ever attended!

The Paradise capacity is around 600 I believe. Also someone said it will probably be at the House of Blues. Not on the 11th, I have tickets to George Thorogood and Tom Hambridge that night (3/11) at the HOB.

I received an e-mail from a local radio station (WTTS-FM in Bloomington, IN) this morning that U2 will be playing a private club event on March 10 in Chicago. They are playing three of these private shows around the country.

U2 to land in Boston on March 11

March 03, 2009

Source: Boston Globe

By Mark Shanahan & Paysha Rhone

The Irish are coming! What we reported first yesterday is now official: U2 will be in Boston next week to promote its new CD "No Line on the Horizon." The special club gig is part of a three-city blitzkrieg Bono and the boys are doing beginning in Los Angeles March 9, followed the next night by a radio show in Chicago, and finally the bash in Boston March 11.

Word is the rockers will set up in a small venue, do a Q&A with fans, and then play material from the new disc, which is out today. The likeliest clubs to host such a spectacle would be the House of Blues and the Paradise, where U2 played its first-ever Boston show in 1980 opening for Barooga Bandit. But both are booked that night, as is the Middle East. George Thorogood is at HOB and the Wailers are at the Paradise. (A Live Nation rep told us yesterday that as a result of our initial item yesterday, the Wailers show is sold out. "There are going to be some seriously disappointed patrons when U2 doesn't show up. . . . Should we direct complaints to the Globe?" she wrote in an e-mail.)

Tickets? Forget about it. There aren't any. Invites are being doled out by local radio stations. (WBCN, WZLX, WFNX, WAAF, Mix 98.5, and Radio 92.9 were all hyping the Hub show yesterday.)

"I don't expect a full set, but the opportunity for some sort of audience interaction is very exciting," said WZLX DJ Carter Alan, who met the band backstage at the 1980 show. "Everyone thinks they're so damn serious, but they're not."

This week, as it seeks to gin up interest in the new CD - the band's 12th - U2 is performing each night on "The Late Show With David Letterman," and also gigging outside Friday at Fordham University. ("Good Morning America" will carry that appearance live.)

Said Alan of U2's invasion next week: "I'm sure many more people will show up than will be able get in. It should be interesting."

They must have canceled the band that was booked to play there. I have been on that dam phone with the answers to questions but don't get through. I have been told it is more of a questions & answers thing with the band and crowd instead of a concert.

Look what 92.9 is doing...

Radio 929 Loves U2, do U?... That's a question you're going to want to ask a lot tomorrow because it could just score you a pair of tickets to see U2! We're sending someone with a pair of Sexy Boots to Boston Common tomorrow (Thursday, March 5th) between 12:30pm and 1:30pm. Your mission? Find him or her and ask "Radio 929 loves U2, do U?" The first person to approach our mystery man or woman wins a pair of tickets to the private performance on March 11th! Ask everyone you see, you never know who it's going to be!

Oh but wait, your chances to win don't end there! Show your love for Radio 929 and U2 to the world- Have a business? Hang a sign out front! Maybe it's a poster in your office window! Just send us a picture as proof for your chance to win. And make sure you hurry! Entries must be received by Thursday, March 5th at 12:00pm EST. Please click here to submit your picture now! **Entrants must be legal owner of property- entries containing illegal acts and/or vandalism will not be accepted. All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply.

And if you just can't wait to win, we're giving you one more way to get in! Radio 929 is proud to present an online auction for a pair of tickets to the show to benefit The Camp Harbor View Foundation. Camp Harbor View offers over 600 children ages 11 to 14 who live in Bostonís at-risk neighborhoods the opportunity to leave the city during the day and participate in a four-week summer camp program.
