Howdy fellow DTB fans.
When I lived in Atlanta I saw Derek play with the ABB during the Fox theater run a few years ago. Since that awsome Fox show I been a DTB fan.
Now days I am back home in the DFW area.
My lady and I will be seeing DTB for the first time this Friday at the Dallas HOB. We got some decent Balcony tickets. I have seen shows at the HOB before and the view from the balcony seats is great and they have a good size bar in the back of the balcony area.
If you have floor tickets you can sqweeze and get right next to the stage.
I am getting pumped about this show. I am really looking forward to hearing selections form the new CD live.
Any one else seeing them for the first time on this tour or any other first timers at the Dallas show this friday.

I really don't think your gonna see Derek at the House of Blues this friday. Maybe look at your ticket or look up again where he is playing.

Don't mean to hijack your thread, but wishing you a good time Friday. We saw dTb in Rochester NY a couple weeks ago. We were front row center against the railing, the same place we stood for a Soul Stew Revival show last summer. 90% of what we heard from that position in the small club venue was Derek's guitar...(not a bad thing!...but we hardly heard Mike's vocals at all) and it was still amazing. LOTS of new material mixed with some old standby's. We got a setlist from Yonrico and Kofi came into the crowd near the railing after the show. Derek was at the merch table so we got the setlist signed and got to talk briefly with him. I hear he's doing that a lot on this tour. Have a blast!

PS- if you go to the dTb concert download site you can get a lot of live versions of the new stuff...my Ipod is busting with new live material.

I was there for the elusive 03-31-06 show in Athens, GA. The venue was a sardine packed non-ac theater and after 4 tunes I stepped on back. Glad I did because the sound was excellent further on back.

got 03-31-06 ?

Back to the thread title...I guess I'm not a 1st timer. One guy I am going with this friday saw Derek open up for the pre-Dixie Chicks back in 86 ??? I think...possibly in Arlington , Texas.

Where have I seen dTb non Soul Stew...many many cities.

Most often, the DTB is using front-fill speakers, so the folks up front can hear the vocals and keyboards. They also have a screen in front of Derek's amp (which I understand he does not like) to improve the mix. I got a stellar recording of the Waterbuy show in front of one of these speakers, which you can find here:

http://www.archive.org/details/dtb2009-02-08.omni11s.flac16

The credit for all this goes to sound engineer Marty Wall.

I downloaded this fine recording last week and listen to it when I am driving around. I like the new tunes they are playing on it. it gives us a good idea of what to expect in Dallas Friday.

Thanks for the link...no screens in front of Derek's amps at Rochester..no complaints though....it was like a personal guitar clinic!

It was like that at the DTB show on Halloween... Derek got louder as the show went on. By the end of the show during Key to the Highway, I could see Kofi pounding the keys, but all I could hear (and feel) was Derek playing rhythm. but like I posted elsewhere, it was like a massage for the musical soul.

Maybe I just needed this...but...
This show rated with 03/31/06.
Granada Theater says that they have all concerts from their theater on youtube.
Got some mpegs I took and will post them later, maybe Sunday.
Derek had a ?????????? 5 amp up their with him, but I think he stayed plugged into the Super all night.
Saw a few tapers, hopefully the audio capture was good and they load them up on archive.org.
Also leaned...Count is from Plano, Texas....you know the tackle box city.

Jon, was the other amp Derek had a PRS? That's what he uses with ABB and I've seen him have it onstage with DTB.

He didn't have the PRS/Sewell amp on stage last night. It was a .....hold on it will come to me, oh yeag a Category 5 Amplifier head. I didn't see if he was plugged into it for the 1st tune and a half. Started with Joyful Noise, 2nd song was Down In The Flood, and I know for sure he plugged direct into a Super when he switched back to an SG. The opening act came out and played with Derek later in the night and he may have plugged into the Category 5, ( he played through a Fender Vibrolux during his set ) any way Gary Clark was much more distinguishable during his sit in with Derek, maybe it was the amp or maybe it was just the mix . Good player, fit right in.

KILLER version of My Favorite Things in Dallas. KILLER

One guy I went with is old school Beatles/Zep and just about any RocknRoll guitarist fan, you know the typical classic rock. He saw Derek with Erik when they were here and I think he was starstruck by Clapton.
Last night....I'd say he left with his jaw on the floor.
Probably some of the best playiing I'd ever been around Derek doing, but like I said earlier, I think I needed this concert .
Nah, it was his finest moments that I've ever witnessed. Got a cool little maki Madi opening tease I think before Kamolay...with Maki in a different key.
Everybody sang except Derek.

A guy I talked to said he went to Austin and Bobby Whitlock came out and sat in on Anyday. ( Now I see a thread about it...cool)

Looking forward to seeing dTb in Kansas City with 2 of my friends from up there and my sonny boy April 10th.

Isn't that 'Sound of Music'?

I hate Rodgers and Hammerstein music, but this version I'll listen to.

Joe Bonamassa uses a Cat 5 amp. Sounds great. I think they have a JB mod for it.

Fantastic show last night! So Close, So Far Away and Kam-ma-Lay were definitely the highlights for me. I also agree that My Favorite Things was incredible... maybe not as long as some of the others that have been played the last few tours, but it was just so intense the whole way through. Get Out of My Life Woman>Who Knows with Gary Clark Jr was pretty sweet, as was the We're a Winner encore. Overall just a killer show.

Two tapes up !!!

http://www.archive.org/details/dtb2009-03-06.at943.flac16

NOTES FROM THE TAPER....I reckon he gets it .

My first time seeing Derek and his band. I had full body, spine tingling, goosebumps several times during this show. My only regret is not having gone to see him sooner. As mentioned above, this is the last Winter Tour performance.

I was in a good location with very little crowd chatter around me. I ran 2 rigs this night, the R-09HR and the D50. The Edirol definitely ruled on this night.

As always, NEVER for sale, trade freely, support the artists' commercial endeavors, and please don't distribute in lossy formats...

enjoy,

David

**Note from uploader - track names changed to conform to LMA standards. Also, the tracking on this show is pretty atrocious, but I left it as is.**

Resurrecting an ancient thread...but I hope DTB fans find it exciting

The first and only time I got to see the Derek Trucks Band was in Dallas in March '09, the final stop on their Already Free winter tour. I was right up front and brought my camera, capable of recording 720p HD video. Due to being up against the stage, the video doesn't give the full scope of the band and everything happening on stage that night; it's very Derek-focused. I captured probably 80% of it on video, and after getting OFOTD's permission, I recently synced his audio to my video clips to present the full concert on video. In my opinion, it's a fun watch with plenty of highlights, so I thought I'd share it here: https://youtu.be/L1DCB-tvujo

Still one of my favorite shows after nearly a decade! Enjoy!
