Hope This ain't a repeat thread:

Do You have a preference? I've seen rave reviews for Already Free, and although I've only listened to it twice (and love it), I'm leanin' towards Songlines, maybe cause I'm more familiar with it............Peace.............joe

In my opinion, each DTB release is better than the last.

I own 'em all and I like Already Free the best.

think of it like each album serves its own purpose. every single album creates a different feeling/emotion and goes after something different than the others. for me though, already free does me best. i don't think people are excited and anxious enough for what is to come from Swamp Raga Studios. the freedom of that place is going to be responsible for creating some amazing works down the line with all kinds of musicians. i cant wait to hear whats next!

agree 100% Ross. Each album, to these ears, is a completely different gig/vibe/feel. I LOVE already free. But then I throw Songlines in and can't get enough of it, either - but for completely different reasons. dTb is by far the most diverse band going right now - and have been for years - so, the good news, it's all a little different...but all good as well.

Great thoughts here about great musicians and albums!

I was fortunate and saw the dTb many times before "Songlines" was released and heard those songs grow and evolve live, so I was way more familiar with "Songlines". I recall getting goosebumps listening to it for the first time. (Man, do I love how the bass was mixed on that release!)

On the other hand, I haven't been able to see the dTb nearly as often as I'd like the past couple of years, so I haven't heard the "Already Free" songs in person like the previous record.

I do love this band so much, though, and I can't wait to hear what they'll be up to in the future!

Put me in the "Songlines" column. I think it's a better representation of what the dtb is and does.

"Already Free"... is a branching out, an exploration if you will, but to me "Songlines" is the dtb.

I love Songlines, and if you added Down in the Flood and a few others from Already Free, it would be perfect.

That pretty much sums it up for me. Songlines has some jams, but just because Already Free is more "song" oriented doesnt mean Derek isnt going to jam the hell out of them live. I saw them at Detroit Jazzfest, and it was mostly old stuff, but this summer tour should be amazing. Im praying they play Rothbury, DTB this time.

Does Susan ever just sit in with the DTB? I have nothing against SoulStew(great@rothbury 08), but I prefer DTB.....but love Susans singing/guitar compliments....I would love if she just sat in with them a couple times, but shes got a band/album of her own too. **sigh**

I like Already Free better as a studio album but I like the songs on Songlines better when they are played live.

I think they are both equally good in different ways. Totally different records, but both great from beginning to end.

sitted?? I think you invented a new word. I have to say that I prefer Soul Stew Revival over dtb....LOVE the horns & Susan & Mike sharing vocals...

1. OUT OF THE MADNESS!!!
2. SONG LINES
3. ALREADY FREE

Maybe Doyle will sit in with the DTB at Wanee and do "our love". That would be sweet!
