How was he? Good band I would imagine? Thinking of seeing him locally this spring.
Any info greatly appreciated.

Saw him about 4 years ago. Still had it then. If he comes around this way again I'd go see him in a heartbeat.

Last time I saw him, he could still sing for sure but the material was not my thing I guess. Seemed to be a bunch of soundtrack songs.

I feel that the above quote is accurate. Joe Cocker started out as an amazingly soulful yet sh!it kicking singer with a knack for interpreting others' material (especially Beatles and Bob Dylan) in ways no other could.

However somewhere in the mid 70s, he lost his edge, began to submerge himelf in vapid ballads and love songs, typical of the era (like Chicago, Air Supply). Probably that's his formula in 2009.

I saw him once back in summer of 1990 on tour with the last very great SRV! we had front row seats & while I was there primarily as a devout SRV fan, Joe Cocker being a bonus, JC & his band were amayzen to say the very least! I actually have tix to see him in May @ UB in Buffalo ~ got great 2nd row seats, looking forward to seeing him again!

I saw that tour too and it was great. I think Dr John and BB King were also there. Joe surprised me then.

I also saw Joe last May, opening for Steve Miller. He was in good voice still and his band was decent. He's worth seeing if he's playing with someone decent and the price is affordable. I had a $10 lawn ticket so it was a great value.

I first saw Joe open up for Led Zeppelin in Asbury Park, NJ three days before Woodstock. I saw again on the Mad Dogs tour and a few times since. I always loved Joe, and went to see him a couple of years back at the Beacon. I walked out about half way through the show totally disappointed. The material had a lot to do with it, but so did Joe.

Not since June of 1990. SRV opened and passed about 3 months later in that horrible copter accident in Wisconsin. 19 years ago!...(Sheesh)... but he was awesome.

You said RECENTLY so I don't know why people are talking about him opening for Zeppelin, or even seeing him in 1990. I last saw him in 2003. I remember 'cause my ex-girlfriend and I saw six shows at the local Mountain Winery in the Bay area that summer. We gave Joe Cocker a tie with ABB for best of the six shows, and we saw some great ones, like Boz Scaggs and Smokey Robinson. I actually was kind of floored at how great Joe and his band were. And a real summary of his entire career, going back to Mad Dogs and Englishmen material or earlier. Great show, great band.............I know that was six years ago, but I really can't speak more highly of how good they really were.

Thanks for all the imput everyone. I'm still on the fence. I have a shot at really great seats, but at $80/each, with a bunch of Beacon shows coming up, I'm thinking I may have to pass on Joe C. Priorities.
