We all know that at some point in the future, the "road that goes on forever" will indeed come to an end as far as the Allman Brothers Band goes.

The question is...regarding this form of music...if you had to pick one, which band will you sort of latch on to the most and let them take you with them down that long unending road that the ABB started

I love the DTB, The Mule, North Mississippi Allstars, and a few others.

But as for me, the band that REALLY gets it done for me the most is...

The Derek Trucks band.

They move me and satisfy me for all the same reasons that the ABB does. The improvisation, the blending of different styles into a coherant "whole". The tremendous "group, not individuals" attitude they have. Dereks breathtaking slide guitar work. Just the overall vibe of the group.

Thats not to say that all the other bands mentioned dont also posses those qualities. They do. And I enjoy them all, including some I didnt mention. (Been getting into Grace and the Nocturnals lately)

When the end comes for the ABB, I'll be listening to all those other bands, and more, but right now the Derek Trucks band is impacting me more than any other group, outside of the ABB.

Me three.

The Derek Trucks Band is my fave next to the the ABB, not so much Soul Stew. I like Susan a lot, but I like my Trucks Band minus Susan. Next would be Mule. I wish I'd heard more of Oteil's band, but I'd be interested in pretty much anything he has to offer post-Allmans. Even interested in checking out his Kreutzman trio thing. I'm starting to get into NMAS more as well. There will still be some great music to see live after The ABB plays their last notes. And you know dTb and Mule will keep these great songs alive as long as possible. I would love to see Warren, Derek, and Oteil have some kind of touring entity that continues far into the future. Such great chemistry there.

I would have to go with the dTb as well.

But I harbor fantasies of wonderful things to come when or if the ABB ceases to tour. I see all kinds of possibilities opening up ...

Not that I would EVER want the ABB to quit touring, but so many incredible musicians have passed through this band that I see the music carrying on forever.

I'd have to split my self in half and go with dTb and the Mule. Two opposites drawn together by one bond.

Besides DTB + STB + SSR and Gov't Mule there's also

The Black Crowes
The Drive-by Truckers
NMAS

Plenty of "young bands" to enjoy and to call my favorites when the ABB is gone but i think
there will never ever be another band i will embrace as much as the ABB.

Did I miss a pre-sale? This row is getting crowded. I hope Susan keeps touring with her band, because I enjoy it much more that Soul Stew. Wareen and Company is also a treat.

Mule, or whatever else Warren is doing at the time. Derek too, though he comes in 2d. Also Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, or any other projects Bela is on, which are many.

The occasional Mule, DTB, Hot Tuna, Funky Meters, WSP and acoustic Neil Young show but I won't be going out of my way for any of these like I do the ABB.

The Mule, NMAS, and DTB for me.

I can't make the Beacon so I'm hoping there is still one more summer tour w/ a stop near enough to me to make it there for one more time.

Last year I made Detroit and if that turns out to be the last time for me, no problem as it was a damn good one.

And the way I see it, Warren will be touring with his walker so I'm set for some kind of live fix for the rest of my life...

There isn't a band, to me, that can take up the mantle. No other band has the quality of songs of the ABB combined with their musical abilities.

Without a doubt, Derek Trucks Band most fully embraces the vision that Duane Allman had for the ABB, and as such he's the natural heir. The Mule, NMAS, Crowes, ect all embrace parts of that legacy and in their own ways keep carrying it forward, but nevertheless, Derek Trucks Band is the one that hits all the marks.

Most likely I'll still lsiten to the ABB more than any other bands, just like the other 2 times they gave it up.

When the ABB is done?

Hopefully by this point, the Herring-Trucks band will have been formed.
