I saw a post on another board from a fellow who is friends with the Trucks
family. He was at the DTB show in Rochester last night and spoke with Derek's
dad who told him that 2009 would be the last year for the ABB.

Thoughts?

Nope, i don't think so. I think they will keep on touring for another couple of years unless health issues arise. I think Derek mentioned this in an interview and it got mis-quoted. The numbers of shows / length of the tours will decline so they can focus more on their own bands, projects and families but i think they have no plans of bringing the Beacon Run to an end and neither the summer/autumn tours but those summer dates will become a little less in numbers. Although this makes the chance of a European Tour to please us Euro Peachheads even more grim.

I seriously doubt it too, they will continue to do what they have been doing, the beacon run+a tour in the summer.I would think derek and warren have to be very tired, from being on the road so much,so who knows.

I talked with Chris for a while last night and he was telling me after this year it will prolly be the end. He did say they would still do the Beacon run for a while but as far as summer tours this will probably be the last. Derek really wants to focus on his band and warren does too. He also asked if i would be coming back to Wanee this JUNE. He couldnt tell me anymore about that but id say the first week in June is a go! AND be on the look out for Mr. Neil Young at the beacon as well!

Hey, if Warren and Derek want to bow out, Mark and I will gladly step in to keep things going (I know, wishful thinking but listen to our ABB tribute band, we could actually do it)

This is sad news. I too have had the opportunity to speak with Chris Trucks on a few occasions and he has always been right on the money.

Live for today!

YOWZA!

This is not the first I've heard that ABB may scale back touring in future (with Beacon remaining an annual event). I enjoy all of the individual bands associated with all members of this band but will admit - I'm gonna be a sad girl when live ABB goes (although a grateful one for all the wonderful musical experiences they have blessed me with over the years).

Maybe he enjoys their music?

I always got the feeling that a lot of the guests would be geared towards the Duane connection, but not all. Several would just be other friends and well-known and loved musicians.

I don't believe that 09 would be the last year, unless there are serious health problems we don't know about in any of the members who would be "retiring" because of that.

this current economy may change band members minds.
The ABB may be the best and smartest thing
going for all of the members. I see crowds getting
smaller and smaller and promoters wanting to
pay less and less for all bands. the ABB moniker
is valuable and marketable thru tough economic
times. It might get tough for Mule or DTB even??
I know that the young guys will work(dt wh ob mq), and can get work,
but it will not be a lucrative as the past 7 or so.
Hanging with the ABB for a few more summers,
playing 20, or so dates, can, as Otiel once put it,
"pay the bills"!!
Long Live the ABB!
