I would like to identify the BEST version of Allman Brothers tunes from the first three studio albums so that I can recreate the album then offer them up in the Vines section. If this comes to debate please keep in mind the goal. Let's see if we can all come to a concensus on this! And thanks in advance for everyone's input! Peace~! Brian
Also, If anyone has the version that is decided to be the best, I may contact you for a copy of it (by trade of course~!)

Alright I am going to narrow this down a little to hopefully get a little more feedback. I'm going to start witht the first studio album.

Please put the date of the version you consider best next to the song. If you agree with one already there, put a capital "I" next to it like a hash mark. So that eventually we will get IIII, etc.

Is there a reason to look further then the Mountain Jam on Eat a Peach?

Although I live the Atlanta Pop Festival Disc 2 version for Berry's Bass solo. That one just shreds and makes me move uncontrollably.

You know Mr. Slowhand I'm trying to do something similar to your project.

I go to Jones Beach Theatre every summer, and always get the Instant Live/Munchmix CDs. Using these Instant Live discs, I am trying to recreate the AT FILLMORE EAST album from start to finish. I am almost there except that the ABB have not performed "Don't Want You No More/Not My Cross To Bear" at Jones Beach since 1999. Every year I hope for them to play this and every year I'm disapointed. A few years ago they did "Don't Want You No More" but paired it with "Southbound"!!! I was robbed again!!

Let us hope they do it this year so I can complet my project.

Cool project"Mr. Smith" (Please call me Brian)

A friend of mine did this with Grateful Dead albums- Blues for Allah and Terrapin Station. They are truly phenomenal to listen to. The only gripe about his work was that he didn't list the dates of the shows where the songs came from.

I would like to do this but with my own angle: list the dates of the show for each song, have someone create some bad a$$ cover art, get the whole forum's input as to which songs are the best versions of each, then offer it up as a vine. And I won't use Instant Lives or Munch Music for mione as I want to make it available to everyone.

But those tunes were not on the Fillmore East album, so maybe you have finished it.

I didn't know what I was talking about!!

I meant re-creating the studio albums as well as Fillmore East. Actually I'm still missing an Instant Live version of "Stormy Monday." They haven't played that at Jones Beach since '01 I think.

Brian, you're only looking for original line-up performances for this project?

That's a great idea to narrow it down even more Randy! I Let's make that another criteria! Each of the next albums would have to be from the band as it performed in that era.

I think you could pull from the 3/13/70 Warehouse show, Liz Reed (peanut butter version!) DWYNM/NMCTB, Whippin Post, this is one of my favorite Duane shows. That would cover some of the tunes from the first 2 albums. Also Midnight Rider and Don't Keep Me Wonderin' from 1/17/71 show.

That could be a small problem considering the original band never performed Stand Back, Melissa, or Little Martha live and only performed "Please Call Home" once. In fact, "Black Hearted Woman" was played just 3 times by the original lineup according to the live show data base. So I would think you would need recent performance as well to make this project complete. We will have to ask Brian on his criteria, since it's his idea - and a fine one too.

Never understood why BHW was not played more in 1970 and 1971. Pretty strange really.

funny but Tyler & I were talking about a similar idea other night too....
I had started an ultimate long full live show (all Duane era only) about 8years ago....
but after the Archives started being released, i let it go..... I'm going to see if I still have the list I created........I do remember that the Done Somebody Wrong from 3/21/71 Warehouse was a choice, think I had the Bill Graham into from the closing FE weekend too (the best of them all)

Well Duane didn't play on the EAP version of Melissa, so you would just need the 5-man lineup for that one, not sure if I remember it on any of the shows I have from '72. And there is the live Little Martha from backstage in Birmingham with Duane.

These are all great points. In keeping with the spirit of the project criteria will be that all of the songs should be pulled from the band from that era- when it is possible. If it is not, then the best version from any period can be included and should be voted on, like the rest of the songs, by the project forum participants.

How's that?

So please use the format below to put your choice next to the song title:

The Allman Brothers Band (1969)
1. Don't Want You No More
2. It's Not My Cross To Bear
3. Black Hearted Woman
4. Trouble No More
5. Every Hungry Woman
6. Dreams 9/19/71 I (1 vote)
7. Whipping Post

After further checking of the data base, Melissa was performed only once in 1972 with the 5 man band and no times at all in 1973. Slim pickens there.

This is a great idea.
If this is going to be offered up as a vine, we probably should stay away from archival released versions, ie Atlanta Pop and Stony Brook 9/71

After the current band recreated Eat a Peach on that radio program a year or so ago, I decided to do the same thing from Instant lives's and Munk Mixes.

Just havent got around to doing it yet, but I will eventually.
