Please keep these people in your thoughts and prayers ...

A Continental flight with 48 people aboard crashed into a home near Buffalo, New York at 10:10 tonight.

Everyone aboard, and one person on the ground, were killed in the tragic crash, which leveled a home in Clarence Center, a neighborhood about 5 miles from Buffalo International Airport, where there was light snow and light rain tonight.

The flight was Continental Express flight 3407 heading to Buffalo, N.Y. from Newark, N.J.

Relatives of passengers aboard flight should call 1-800-621-3263 for information

The crash is America's deadliest since a Comair commuter jet crashed in Lexington, Ky., on Aug. 27, 2006. That crash also claimed 49 lives.

The plane came in low and fast, according to witnesses interviewed by CNN and the Buffalo News reports that the plane had experienced mechanical problems: Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority spokesman C. Douglas Hartmayer said there was little communication between the plane, Flight 3407, and the tower before the crash. Crew members aboard the flight from Newark Airport had reported mechanical problems as they approached Buffalo.

The plane reportedly was a Bombardier Q400, a twin-engine turboprop with a passenger capacity of about 74.

Reuters reports: A commercial plane crashed into a house in Buffalo, New York, and burst into flames, and there was no immediate report if there were any survivors, CNN reported on Friday.

The plane, which could seat up to 60 passengers, was on a flight from Newark, New Jersey, to Buffalo, when it crashed late on Thursday night, it said.

The New York Times reports: [Erie County executive Chris] Collins said the plane, Continental Airlines Flight 3407, crashed about 10:20, five minutes before it was due to land. The house it crashed into was still fully engulfed in flames at 12:30 a.m., and Mr. Collins said that about 12 houses were evacuated and a limited state of emergency was declared.

That's a real shame. I'll be thinking about the victims and their families.

The death toll is now at 50, according one news report I saw.

Too bad this couldn't have had the outcome Flight 1549 had.

Apparently a 9/11 widow was on board. Just horrible for all that are affected by all the lives lost.

I always think abot what those people have going though their minds as they know that they are quickly approaching the end of their time on earth. Peace be with all those that lost their lives and the families and friends they left behind.

Front and center ... terrible tragedy. One amazing thing - believe I heard on news that a mother and child in residence in this house did escape injury?

Yes, the wife and the 22 yr old daughter made it out somehow. Imagine? Very sad. I don't like to fly. I can't imagine being in a jet that is going down. That matter of seconds must drag out, with your life passing before your eyes.

I have a buddy at work who used to work in Tonawanda, NY. He lived about a mile from this crash. The plane crashed into his daughter's best friend's house. Her friends mother and brother escaped, but her father perished. And my friend's daughter's boyfriend's cousin was on the plane. Small world.

I saw the headlines on CNN this morning, no real details at first, other than casualties on the ground.

I immediately called Susan, who works about five miles from the airport.

Huge sigh of relief when she answered the phone.

During the first intermission of tonight's Sabres game they interviewed several players who saw or heard the crash.

From Tony Levin's web site.

Just received the awful news that a dear old friend, sax player Gerry Neiwood, was on the plane that crashed last night near Buffalo. We were in school together in Rochester, played together in Chuck Mangione's band, and moved to New York at about the same time. I've just been looking over the photos from the 2007 reunion of Friends & Love - his ebullient spirit spills out in each picture. His playing was incomparable too - it's a sad day for those who touched his life personally and musically. Gerry will be greatly missed by a lot of us.
