There have been multiple threads here in the last few months about Dickey Betts showing up at the ABB 40 year anniversary run of Beacon shows. To which I always said, "No way, ain't gonna happen, after the animosity of the last 10 years."

Well, Butch Trucks pretty much affirmed my opinion if you've seen the latest Rolling Stone (with Springsteen on the cover). Here's what Butch had to say in a short interview under Rock 'n' Roll news on page 13:

"Because it's the 40th anniversary, we've invited some other people that people might consider, you know, special," hints drummer Butch Trucks. "And because they knew and loved Duane, many of them have said yes. So we're working our butts off trying to learn their tunes!" As for reports that guitarist Dickey Betts, who was fired in 2000, might partake in the shows, Trucks is more blunt: "It's not gonna happen. We won't confirm or deny rumors - except that one."

That statement if it turns out to be true will be a F*CKIN' shame. It would be much better and more diplomatic IMO had that after the fact Mr. Truck's would say, "Unfortunately we couldn't work it out." Sometimes it's better to keep silent and be thought a cold heartless basturd, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt.

I don't think Butch is what you just called him. You can't play music with someone you are
having personal difficulty with. It just isn't fun.

Would you rather that band just hung it up? Not me, too much great music since 2000.

this is a dead horse, find a new one to ride.

Geez, this is about the 1oth post discussing Dickey at the Beacon, quoting Butch and G/or Gregg. As spacemonkey said, let it go already........

I'm with spacemonkey. Butch never slammed Dickey. He said "it ain't gonna happen."
Nothing more, nothing less. That's diplomatic enough for me. Why continue to allow false rumors to fly? That's all Butch did, shed light on a subject that many are wondering about.

Sounds to me no Dickey, no reunion. Butch should be thankful for Dickey. If it was not for Dickey he would be playing in a wedding band in Jacksonville.

Actually Duane was a friend of Butch and had played with him in the past and went to his house directly to ask him to be in the band and invited him to the Jacksonville jam....Dickey didn't initially want to be in the band but Berry convienced him to join.....

Every thing we say on the website is directly connected to Duane Allman...without him this site and these dicussions wouldn't be happening...

I think it shows more class to be direct and honest, than to go in circles withit
imagine if they kept saying possibly, and a hardcore dickey fan shelled the$$ for several beacon tixs

and was let down, and then finding out that they knew it wasnt gonna happen

==============

From your quote on the "Duane Betts" thread:

Ruthelane, I couldn't agree with you more! I know Dickey's duaghter, Christie, in a round about way. She is or could be a very talented singer, but dealing with "Family Tradition" can be a double edged sword. Kind of damned if you do, damned if you don't. If you choose the mental, physical and financial securtiy of seeking an occupation outside of the music business, people will talk about you. If you try your hand at it, there are scads of folks ready to belittle you. Illness, Big V and brother Leon WTF? I love y'all and I may agree with y'all to a certain extent, but ... jeeze ... y'all come off looking like jerks.

=====================

So, it's ok for you to call Butch trucks a "Cold heartless Basturd"...but let somebody else voice an opinion about young Duane Betts' playing and well, that's a different story.

Diplomatic?..LOL..people that live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones

There is no 'anniversary' without Dickey because there is no Allman Brothers Band without him. Duh.

I have seen a lot of great shows by the band called the Allman Brothers Band over the last 10 years (and many more years before Dickey left). I have also seen a number of good shows by DB & GS over the same time frame-they were not nearly as good as the Allman Brothers Band, but it was good seeing Dickey playing songs the ABB don't play at all or much any more.
I had tickets for the ABB at Red Rocks when Dickey's firing was announced and I was not happy, but I decided to go and see how they sounded and they were better than the previous year at RR when Dickey was having substance problems (tripping is what I heard) and spent the night complaining to techs and the newly arrived Derek Trucks. The show ended early and Dickey said something like 'you all deserved better', but the problems were on him.

Obviously there's a good reason..whatever it is...& only they know....so,it's up to them to decide what they want to do..as it should be.....I'm thinking he...or they...might not be so "negative" if people would quit bringing it up.How many time's do they have to say it? It's no one's business but theirs.

I just think it would be cool if folk's could respect them as Men & as a band & not question their decision.
