Sorry if this has been done to death but I'm curious about the answers I may see.
In your opinion, what 5 songs best represent the ABB and what they are about? Any song they've recorded on any album as long as it was written by a member of the band.
1. Whipping Post
2. Elizabeth Reed
3. Dreams
4. Southbound
5. Ain't Wastin' Time No More

Is it OK if I have 6 songs, (in no particular order)?
Elizabeth Reed
Midnight Rider (because it's a great song written by Gregg with Berry's line "And the road goes on forever")
Revival
Dreams
Ain't Wastin' Time No More
Whipping Post

1. "Dreams" - it's their ultimate song, in my opinion, and was a worthy title for their 20th anniversary boxed set. It's the one song that every brilliant ABB guitarist has put their unique stamp on.
2. "Statesboro Blues" - best representation of their up-tempo blues and Duane's slide guitar precision.
3. "Whipping Post" - the Allmans didn't invent extended jamming, but they certainly perfected it.
4. "Elizabeth Reed" - the Allmans were always more than just a blues band and Dickey's instrumental is as unique and beautiful as anything.
5. "Back Where It All Begins" - I was tempted to put "Jessica" here, but "BWIAB" seems as iconic and joyful to me as anything the Allmans have ever done. A great representation of all that was great with their rebirth two decades ago.
Honorable Mention: "Jessica", "Ain't Wasting Time No More", "Moutain Jam", "Midnight Rider", "Don't Want You No More/Not My Cross to Bear"

Mountain Jam , progressive jam song of the millenium. Its got it all.
Whipping Post , on FE the song goes from outright blazin to dark depression and back again covering a spectrum of tempos and notes.
Blue Sky, ( in E ) great harmony guitar licks and a staple song with a different touch
Liz Reed Fillmore, doesn't need any explanation.
Dreams from University of Missouri . Duane toying with one note during the solo flipped my skirt.

I contemplated "Back Where it all Begins" too. It's what we hope for, a reconciliation of sorts: "We'll all be singing and we'll all be friends, back where it all began..."
I don't think "Statesboro Blues" was not written by any member of the ABB. |

But Stormy Monday doesn't really count -- OP wants songs written by an ABB member. Hey, I had 6 songs too. It's so hard to limit myself, always overindulging. |

Oh, I didn't see that stipulation. I guess I'd bump "Ain't Wasting Time No More" into the top five then since it represents so much about the band members, though blues covers are an integral part of the band in my opinion.
