Will anybody else acknowledge the obvious pattern forming here? The democrats have succeeded in instituting one party rule and they already think the law doesn't apply to them. This must be the 'change' we were promised.

Daschle Regrets Tax ‘Errors,’ Gets Nod From Baucus
By Aliza Marcus and Tony Capaccio

Feb. 2 (Bloomberg) -- Thomas A. Daschle, picked by President Barack Obama to be Health and Human Services secretary, said he was “deeply embarrassed” about $128,000 in errors on his taxes, and promised in a letter to answer all questions about how it happened.

The letter was sent to the ranking members of the Senate Finance Committee before a meeting today between the panel and the former U.S. senator, according to a person who provided the correspondence to Bloomberg. Daschle amended his returns for 2005, 2006 and 2007, and paid $140,000 in taxes and interest.

Daschle’s nomination must be confirmed by the finance committee. Republican Jon Kyl of Arizona, a panel member, said on “Fox News Sunday” that it’s too early to tell whether the nomination is in trouble. Daschle refiled his returns Jan. 2 to add unreported consulting fees, unspecified charitable contributions and a car and driver provided by Leo Hindery Jr., a founder of the private-equity firm InterMedia Advisors, a committee draft report said.

“I apologize for the errors and profoundly regret that you have had to devote time to them,” Daschle said in the letter sent to Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, a Democrat from Montana, and the ranking Republican, Senator Charles Grassley of Iowa. “I will be happy to answer any Committee members’ questions about these issues.”

Baucus, in an e-mailed statement today, said his “faith” in Daschle’s “dedication and qualifications has only been bolstered in recent weeks by our numerous conversations about the pressing need for comprehensive health-care reform.”

Daschle regrets tax errors.

Unlike Dick Morris who is still dodging almost half a million dollars worth.

(BTW, the issues with the 'democrats' started long before the outcome of this election or 'one party rule'.)

Again, Dick Morris, who I gleefully acknowledge is a scum-bag, is NOT being considered for the president's administration - unlike Daschle and Geithner.

That doesnt matter a "crook" is a "crook". If you are whining and crying about Daschle and Geithner (who was not dodging taxes) while continuing to nuzzle the breast of Morris, you are a hypocrite. Not only is Morris a top 100 tax delinquent, but he is a well documented liar.

Well, we're entitled to our own opinion.

BTW, Geithner was obviously dodging taxes. You don't ''overlook" what he overlooked, quarter after quarter, for years unless it's intentional. Or unless you are incompetent. Either reason would disqualify him from Treasury Secretary if the BarryO administration actually practiced what it preached.

Indeed, but facts are facts and you dont get to have an opinion on which fact you want to believe.

Not from what Ive read.

Actually he had done his own taxes and made the mistakes. It takes a while for the IRS to find the problems sometimes. I dont believe, for the evidence on hand, that his actions were intentional. It really wouldnt make much sense for someone that high up the food chain to do something so obvious with really what amounted to a relatively small amount of money over a period of time. Morris, on the other hand, knew how to really get over on the IRS. Half a million is a lot. Being one of the top 100 delinquents in on the list is a pretty amazing statement on its own.

Please. I dont want to hear a single word from any conservative all of a sudden concerned about qualifications in a job after the Bush administration and their parade of ineptness for the past 8 years.

Okay, so it's now apparently alright to swim in precisely the same gutter as the Bush years, yes? I thought you 'enlightened and progressive' folk were above all that. You purported to be 'better.' Where's the change?

Which is why it hit the news cycle after dinner time on Friday. Further proof there is no left-wing bias in 'mainstream' media.

Would he have come clean if he was not getting an Obama admin nod? This does not appear to be mathemetical errros buta pattern of serious unreporting of income. He should have known better.

Of COURSE he knew better, but he's a democrat. All he has to do is "regret" he made a mistake and everything is rosey.

The truth is it's business as usual. The Democrats excuse the Democrats and the Republicans excuse the Republicans. If Daschle was a Republican being considered for a Republican administration he would be sunk. And vice versa.

The point is with this bunch of hypocrites Daschle ISN'T sunk. They'll give him a pass and he'll get in. Absolute power corrupts absolutely and with the current democrat administration it only took a couple weeks.

"Absolute power corrupts absolutely"......EXCELLENT WAY TO DESCRIBE WHAT HAPPENED IN THE LAST EIGHT YEARS, but it's hard to apply that description to someone who's only been in power 14 DAYS.
BIG difference between Eight Years and 14 days.....Just do the math.

This from a man who never saw a tax increase he didn't like (or vote for)....

"Make no mistake, tax-cheaters cheat us all, and the IRS should enforce our laws to the letter."

"Second verse, same as the first" was what I started using, but I think I'll use the derisive term that was used against McCain.

It's just all the McSame.

I dont claim, nor have I ever claimed to be "enlightened and progressive", nor "better". Your same old tired schtick is getting really old. Past that, you do not in any way believe that the Bush years were in any kind of gutter. And Ill take one guy screwing up his taxes over your hero and all the other unqualified, inept people in the past 8 years any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Now the question is, did they just not pay taxes, or did they have enough deductions and write-offs to not have a tax bill.
There were years when my kids were little that I got back all my taxes I paid for the year (and a little extra once in a while).
So I'll ask, just what are you basing this list on?

You essentially said it's OK for democrats to do the same things for which you chastise Republicans, apparently because it's now democrats doing what Republicans did. That IS essentially what you have claimed and if so then democrats are no better than Republicans.
