This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. It's because of that sorry sumbitchin Michael Vick and some other imbeciles who fight certain breeds of dogs so they can get their nut on **** like this. Please urge congress to vote down this and go after the real culprit.

Stop Legislation Against Certain Dog Breeds

Target: U.S. State Representatives
Sponsored by: American Humane Association
Many states, counties and municipal governments are turning to legislation targeting specific breeds as an answer to dog attacks. While supporters of this type of provision - commonly called breed-specific legislation - argue the only way to be safe from dog bites is to eradicate "dangerous breeds" from the community, there is little to no evidence that breed-specific legislation reduces dog bites and dog attacks.

In 2008, cities in over half of the states considered some form of breed-specific legislation. In Omaha, NE pit bulls are required to have a $100,000 liability insurance policy. And some cities like Denver and Sioux City have banned pit bulls altogether.

Sadly, a bill recently failed in Illinois that would prevent insurance companies from unfairly discriminating against consumers based on the breed of dog at their residence. And now, several cities across the country are considering some form of breed-specific legislation, including Mississippi, Massachusetts, Ohio and Washington.

Breed-specific legislation does not work and we know it. Sign this petition to show your dedication to stopping breed-specific legislation from being implemented across the country. The more signatures we have, the stronger our voice!

What a boatload of crap.

As a delivery person, I've been bitten numerous times, more in the last five years than in the first ten.

The majority of those bites have been by little mixed breed dogs not even knee high.

I've never been bitten by a Pit Bull, Lab, Great Dane, St. Bernard, Mastiff, Chow, Rottweiler, or Collie.

I have been bitten by one Doberman, two dachshunds, a couple of mixed breed mongrels, and one thing that had to have been a dog 'cause it was too ugly to be a cat.

You need to take one of those old flashes you attach to them old cameras (circa 1970's-1980's) that you can keep in your pocket and use to blind the little barkstards. It's safer and more humane than anything else and would give you time to get out of their way.

There ought to be some training education classes for owners because that is where most of the problem is. They think the dogs will train themselves. They also want to treat dogs like cheap substitutes for children. I've been at odds with a Doberman/beagle/hound mix who was walking around the neighborhood and wanted to come see me, he deferred to me twice, so he's making progress.

Sending one biting dachshund four feet into the air with my good leg did give me the pleasure of calling it "even".

Dogs are excellent judges of character.

Never been bitten by a Beagle either.

Don't see them much anymore.

Too bad.

Our daughter took in a pit bull that had been rescued from a 'training' facility. Someone had duct taped his mouth shut and chained him up so other dogs could 'practice' on him. Toby almost died and they nursed him back to health. He's a wonderful pet and once he recouperated, he discovered our grandson's skateboard. He loves to play on that thing. I don't believe it's the breed that should be eliminated.....it needs to start with pet owners who mistreat their animals.

That is a nice looking dog skypup, is that your pet?

I'll look over the info and consider signing the petition, I tend to feel the same way.

Well, er, uh.. She's probably gonna head down to Florida next week with me to see my Mom. When Mom calls she's always asking about London. So, I guess she's mine.

Is there any way to keep some people from seeing that?

Thanks to all who sign this petition. London, our dog is the sweetest dog you'd ever meet. She is all about lovin and is my fishing companion. When I head out the door with my fishing pole she's so excited it's comical. She'll lead me down to the pond all the time just as happy as a pig in slop and when we get there she just sits and watches. She was real excited when I caught that big bass this month, but she never made an attempt to bite it.

My "Buddy" is a Pit Bull Akita mix and is wonderful dog, smart, easily trained, and loveable. They are pretty much a one family dog and are protective. That being said, my daughter has a Yorkie named Simon who is aggressive and hyper, when she brings him to the house I have to separate them because Simon is the one who is the aggressor in every scrape they have ever been in.

Signed the petition.

Bluedad has a cousin who lost an arm at the shoulder as a result of a pit bull attack. It was big news here when it happened.

I don't think certain breeds are prone to aggression. I think they are trained to be aggressive, and other times, they react to situations where they may bite. Banning breeds is a knee jerk reaction to a problem that gets a lot of media coverage. If every dog bite made the news, we'd see that pit bulls aren't responsible for nearly as many vicious dog attacks as we're lead to believe.
