The local news did a piece the other day about fast food joints outsourcing drive-through orders! So now when you pull up to the order gizmo the order will go through to India?!?!? Yeah, that'll improve order quality and customer satisfaction! Management said this would free up workers to do more "meaningful" and "important" tasks....right. Like standing in the unemployment line.

Can't wait for the free-market apologists to defend this "technological improvement"...

This has to be a joke....really....it's just got to be. Half the time the speakers don't work at the places anyway and we have to drive to the window.....how's that going to work for them? I don't know whether to be mortified or keep laughing!!!

It's not a joke. It is indicative of the direction that this country is going to continue to move in.

I know the story sounds insane
but they have been looking at different technologies for around a year

via net hookups push button screens at the counter, they are looking at it from alot of different angles

Pretty soon India and China will do all our labor jobs for us...That will make for A LOT of unemployed American Workers. Blame it on Greedy U.S. Corporations who don't want to follow U.S. Laws regarding wage, labor, taxes, & environment.

Gee. Really? Never would have guessed that India and China are fundamentally different cultures.

Thanks for the insight.

Don't forget to blame those people in Washington that allow them to do it.

Makes about as much sense as Salmon being caught in US waters - that gets sent to China for processing - then shipped back to us....That's what happens and it makes no sense.

But ultimately the blame falls with the corporations--they lobbied congress heavily to create
laws that would allow overseas movement of companies (through so-called Free-Trade agreements
and other methods).

Yes, best government money can buy. I think your statement is a good indictment of our politicians.

It's a crock of sh*t if you ask me. I am going through the process of trying to get unemployment from the state of Georgia and I spoke to an Indian on the phone this past Tuesday. I had to keep asking her to speak louder. It was driving me nuts.

Hey, what are y'all, a bunch of socialists? If a corporation decides this is the best way to do business, then they must be right. Let the market control itself. And learn to speak some foriegn languages.

I just hope they don't include Japan in this. I don't want anyone asking me "Do you want flies with your order?"

This ought to speed **** up, especially with a special order.

Skypup, when I get a customer service rep from far away lands, I constantly ask them to repeat their words at least 6 or 7 times per sentance. After they say it, I apologize and say my hearing isn't so well. Even if I understand them, I still ask them to repeat several times in a row. After 10 minutes and maybe 3 questions or statements , they are the ones getting pissed off. Eventually I get another phone number which puts me in contact with somebody stateside.
Another one of my fun tricks is to try to duplicate the accent they have and still go through the " Can you please repeat, my ears don't work so well? " Man...do they get pissed off. Especially if I tell them I am a Pakistatni native.
I should have recorded a few of these golden moments.

This is one of the most foolish ideas I've heard in a long time. Really anxious to hear how this one's going to be justified. It's not like fast-food workers make so much money that the suits can even point to this as cost justified (their usual answer for sending jobs over the border or overseas). Not big on fast-food anyway - this would just give me more reason to stay away from the drive-through.
