Let's hope this not another one of Butch's business adventures that turns out not to be quite what was expected. Six weeks out before the big event (can we say amateur hour), and no webste? Certainly hope that all technical issues have been taken care of and that picture quality is at least of HD quality amd sound is at least soundboard (non-compressed) quality. For a $100/$125 dollars for a six month subscription (btw, what shows do you get after the Beacon?) you can only hope. Hate to say it, but those who are buying in are buying in at somewhat a "leap of faith". Of course, drummers are always on the cutting edge of technology, and certainly are to be believed.

sibwalker - if you checked the site yourself or read warjags post in another MOOGIS thread you would see that he has been able to get logged on - site is up and running (although an 'official' announcement hasn't yet been made). There are even some free samples out there so that you can make your decisions based on a live taste.

lolasdeb,

I'll be real curious to see how many "buy into" Moogis, and how well it actually turns out. So what you can log into the site, doesn't answer the technical questions I brought up. HD picture quality? Soundboard (non-compressed) sound quality (stereo/5.1) and not MP3, care to answer that? For the money that what you should be getting, but as of yet, no one is saying anything along those lines.

C'mon all...no fighting...this is exciting....

I am sort of curious to see what is beyond the Beacon shows for the six month subscription.

imo, if even one Beacon show makes its way to my TV via Moogis, it's worth $100. IF it does what it says it will....it'll be a life-changer. VERY Exciting..

The sample video (Piedmont show) doesn't look hi-def. I don't think that is possible though,
streaming live, is it?

OK I am on my little home computer. The sound is as good as any streaming concert. But if you look at the video with Butch explaining Moogis he did not even know when it would be up.
H says it will be HD on the piedmont park concert. I do not know about the Beacon. He said get your friends over get some popcorn and party out.

Does anyone have this hooked up to a HD TV yet?

For $100/$125 I want it SOTA. How else are you're going to get the full Beacon experience?

Its the ABB band. I have already given my money. I will watch the Beacon if it is Dial -Up if I have to.

Its a $100.00 freaking dollars? Get some buddies over tell them to bring the booze and food and you are there.

Geeze I want HD and all that I can possibly get. But if I don't that is the way it is. We will all see soon.

I posted this in the other Moogis forum, but figured I would put it here also. I have my laptop hooked up to my Samsung 50" LCD FlatScreen HDTV through a monitor cable and monitor extension cable (approximately $15 total at Best Buy). Easy stuff to figure out. The picture from the Piedmont show is good, but doesn't appear at this point to be HD. That being said, the picture is very clean and crisp. Well worth figuring out how to hook it up. The picture itself is essentially a widescreen movie version, meaning it has the black bar on the top and bottom of the screen or 16:9 format. I'm still fussing with the audio at the moment, but I'm sure I will figure it out before March. Bottom line is that Moogis appears to be the real deal, and it is well worth the $100. I'm sure there will be some crashes and bugs, but that's what us early technology adopters have to suffer through. Please don't take any of this as gospel, but as of 5 minutes ago that's the story from my vatange point.

whether HD or not, your pc or laptop would have to have the proper program/software/video card to receive in HD

I joined today and watched parts of three shows. The picture definetly isn't as clear as I expected on full screen and that is only a 15 inch widescreen. The sound was good and definetly worth $100.00 for the entire run. I'm wondering if it will get even less clear on a big screen TV through a monitor cable?

Presumably the pictures are NTSC based and so picture quality in the UK will depend upon how well your hardware copes with that format?

Well it looks like a regular webcast. The use of the term HD suggested to me somethign that was a step up from that...but maybe it is my hardware....!

Ok guys. I'm sitting in my office ready to crack. This has been a long journey (and Sib, you say amateur hour if you want. I've been playing 40 years. On the net long before Windows. I truly doubt you will find anyone else as qualified to do this at this time). I started this journey 5 years ago. Fortunately it didn't happen. As I have found the technology, specifically the bandwidth, just wasn't there. Now, for many of you, the bandwidth (500K) is there and we can deliver a clear (not HD) picture and first rate audio. We felt that the site was ready to go yesterday but ran into a couple of problems that have caused us to take it down until they are fixed. We are trying to do something that hasn't been done before. To expect that we wouldn't have problems would be irrational. We expect the problems to be fixed and to be back up very soon. To answer a few questions I've seen: the Beacon Shows (all of them) will be streamed (you will not be able to rip a DVD. The content does not belong to Moogis. Whether or not any DVD's, CD's, etc are released in the future is strictly up to the ABB. They own all of the content). Once the show is streamed live we will loop it until the next one begins (we want people around the world to see them). They will then be archived and you can watch them at any time for the remainder of your subscription. As I said the shows will be streamed on Flash at 500K. HD requires 1,25M. Very few of you would be able to watch in HD if we were to send a stream that large and those that could would, for the most part, be plagued with buffering problems. We've experimented with many levels and delivery systems and this is the best we could find. The picture will be clear, color saturation good and sound excellent. Additionally we had to take into account the cost of bandwidth (BTW, the number of people watching will not affect your stream. The company we are using has done shows with up to a million viewers without a problem). There are some of you that will watch these shows enough times that it will cost us more in bandwidth than your subscription. We have chosen what we hope is an average bandwidth usage. If we have underestimated then we will lose money. We have put several shows dating back to 2001 up on video. The quality of the video ranges from poor to good. These are shows that were videos by in house systems, not by us, and what you see is what you get. I personally have greatly enjoyed watching them. We have also been encoding audio only shows as far back as 2001. This has been my background music for the last few days. Anyway, we are very close to finally getting this thing off the ground. If you need to know how to connect to your TV and stereo, Vaylor is putting together a video showing you all of the various ways to connect. We'll get this up as soon as we can. Please be patient just a little longer. This year's Beacon run is going to be epic. If you can't come to the shows we're trying to give you an opportunity to still be a part of the experience. Peace.

Thanks for the input, Butch. I took my maiden voyage of the site last night and am impressed! Loved the Piedmont Park taste especially! Sounded great and provided a unique visual perspective you might not even have as an audience member. There was one expression Derek got on his face just as Warren was getting ready to take off on his solo that was priceless!
