As we can see from current Beacon and Dead sales, "there's something rotten in the state of Denmark." I don't have a lot of time to devote to the project, but I'm going to try to learn a few things. There are explanations out there.

Here's an article from mid-2008 that explains a few things.

As a teaser, here's the first talking-point: "We thrive on your confusion."

"The recent relaxation of antiscalping laws in 44 states ..."

Why don't they just call it what it is? "Recent LEGALIZATION of CORPORATE scalping", would've been a much better description.

It's been noted that you'd serve more time for robbing a convenience store of $20.00 than if you got caught bilking folks out of millions in a banking scam. I'll bet that a guy trying to hawk a few tickets in the front of the Beacon theater would get his ass hauled off to jail - while "companies" like TicketMaster/TicketsNow and StubHub are being "licensed" to legally fleece concert goers.

I want to see the Allman Brother's Band at this years Beacon run bad. Real bad. But not bad enough to pay these ticket barons the ransom that they seek.

Not wishing anything bad towards my favorite band in the world - but I hope there are a lot of empty seats this year.

Agree 100%! And I find it painfully humorous that these brokers take such great pains to attempt to qualify what they do and disassociate themselves from the scalper label.

10. We might sell your ticket to somebody else if they offer more money.

This is pretty easy.
What they are doing is not technically breaking law, but is HIGHLY, HIGHLY unethical.
I won't go into the band's culpability on all this, but lets just say, it probably won't hurt certain projects the band has scheduled.

They are controlling the price of the market by limiting the # of tickets available to the public at a certain time, and forcing those fans to go to the secondary markets to purchase these tickets at a mark up, that would be illegal for the average fan to re-sell his extra tickets at.

They use to have a TM ticket auction for the good seats, so the playing field was at least relatively even. Now they don't even have that, in order to maximize whatever market is potentially out there.

Its a shame that this Forums focus isn't 100% on the music, guest artists, and broadcasting of these shows via the Moogis platform, but instead a nice size chunk is being debated on how tickets to the actual shows are being sold.
Like I said all my opinion....
